Why are pawn shop guns so beat up?

Why do most of the guns in pawn shops look like they have been through multiple torture tests and then drug through gravel?

For months I've been trying to find a slightly used CZ 75 or P01 with no luck. Gun stores don't stock them or they will order one for a ridiculous price.

I've been visiting every pawn shop I see and I finally found a used one at a pawn shop today. Unfortunately it looks like it's had a rough life. It has no box, 1 mag, and is scratched all over. It also looked like the barrel was pitted. They were asking $435, hardly a deal.

As I looked through the case almost every gun looked like it had been kicked down a sidewalk. They had a Walther PPS that was in horrible shape which baffled me because those guns have only been out a few years. How could someone treat a gun that poorly? It was also priced at $435

I keep hearing about people finding amazing deals at pawn shops but I keep striking out..... end rant.

Sometimes, gun stores have deals with local pawn shops, and when the best ones come out of pawn, they go to the gun store. That sometimes leaves the chaff for the pawn shop counter.

Maybe they have been tossed more than 30 feet too many times?

I understand what you guys are saying but I guess I just have a hard time understanding how the guns get so beat up.

I've carried my G19 for almost 2 years now and I think I even dropped it once and it still looks almost new.

I guess it's no different than some 1-2 year old cars I see that look horrible. People must really abuse their toys.

I know my local pawn shop bids and gets a large percentage of the Law Enforcement confiscated and LEO upgrade

market in the area.

I assume you mean P01? And I hope your kidding because I'm going to be pretty pissed if he is selling a P01 for that price.

Speaking of Bill's Outpost, I heard the Farragut location closed. Is that true?

He must mean a Walther P1, price seems about right for that. I doubt a P01 would last long at that price.

Yeah it closed.

wow that sucks. I thought he was doing pretty good there. I imagine his lease was probably a fortune at that location though.

Wow, he didn't last any time at all out there, I'm surprised really.

Just a guess here, but some law enforcement agency's sell confiscated firearms at auctions sometimes and I think pawnshops get some of the rougher ones.

I think they just sit in boxes and get slung around until there are enough to sell.

I bought a police trade-in Beretta 92 long ago that barely had any blue left on the gun but it shot great. Maybe should have kept it but traded it in on a new 92 Inox back then just because the old police trade-in looked so nasty. Had to break in the new Inox about 1000 rds before it started shooting as good as that ugly old police trade-in.

I'm kinda obsessive about avoiding scratches and dings, but maybe have matured to the point that if I had a gun that shoots great, would keep it even if it is ugly enough to make a freight train take a dirt road.

Pawn shops are the last place I would go to look for a nice firearm. That's not to say you can't get lucky from time to time, but I don't think I'd count on one to have the exact weapon I was looking for in pristine condition. If I did that, I'd stay in a constant state of disappointment.

Are you now an official FL resident and can't buy in-person at any stores except FL guns stores?

Academy sports has had CZ-75's on a pretty regular basis. I only go in there window-shopping a few times per year, but they usually have CZ-75 in the display case.

Today I was in Academy (at Chatt) and noticed they had a P07 in the display case with a $399 price tag. Haven't gone shopping for P07 so dunno if that is a good price or not.

Unfortunately, looks like Academy only has FL stores in Jacksonville, Orange Park, and Pensacola, all a dang long drive from Orlando.

I got a beautiful Remington Pump shotty from a Pawn shop once, paid a fair price too.

Bought a gawd aweful looking Steven's .22 from the same pawn shop a few years later but the price was a show stopper. Put a little time and love into it and it looks great now and is a real shooter too.

Sometimes the prom queen is wearing a burlap sack. You just gotta clean her up a bit before you put her on your arm.

Yes I am now a legal Fl resident. I might take a day trip up to Jacksonville and see what they have. Hard to believe in a town as big as Orlando we don't have very many gun stores, and unfortunately no Academy.

Because nobody cares what the finish looks like when you're using it to knock off a Stop-N-Rob. Besides, it will just get messed up when you throw it in the river afterwards anyway.

Well, that's a keeper! Another quote that applies to guns AND women!

The two Pawn Shops I frequent would probably just assume be gun shops anyway, but they have pretty clean guns. I thought a couple of months ago that I wanted a prelock J frame so I went in J and M Pawn to find exactly what I was looking for. It was a mint 442 Nickel no-lock and he told me $350 I said let me think about it because I had allready bought two guns that week. I came back an hour later and the other guy that was in the shop overheard and bought it. I ended up finding a 642 no lock instead but would have loved that 442 nickel. I really don't go in any others than my regular two.
