Winchester Model 88 .308 Magazine

Hello, this morning while on a deer hunting trip, my grandfather lost the magazine to his Winchester Model 88 .308 rifle. We went back with metal detectors but couldn't locate it. After doing some research, it seems that his rifle was built in 1955 because the serial number on it is 4048. With it being that old, I'm not sure if a new (reproduction) magazine would fit properly in his rifle. Winchester model 88 Info From reading this info, it seems that his rifle would need the earliest type of magazine. I didn't know if the newer types of the magazine would fit his gun, or if it would be a better fit to get a newer version of the magazine. Does anybody have any ideas about this? I've emailed a couple gun part websites and I'm waiting to hear back from them.

They are. And pricey like mentioned. Not sure about early year vs. later though. I've seen some on Gunbroker go for decent prices for I have had the need to replace them for a few customers many times now. A guy up in AK seems to have a pile of them. There are aftermarket repro's out there. Not sure if that matters to you or your grandfather. The last one I ordered for a 100 worked just fine.

Good luck!
