Hey guys, trying to get my SS target in tip top shape for the holidays.... or spring, or really any excuse will do. Question is involving checkering the front strap.

Has anyone had this done?

If so, where?

Cost involved?

Anywhere local that does it?

I was considering having it done awhile back. Most places I checked I was quoted around $300 total. You are much better off buying one with it already done. Which is why I will not buy a 1911 at any price that the frontstrap is not checkered.

That was kind of vague wasn't it. When I was looking for someone to do a Colt Defender for me, which I sold because I can't stand a 1911 without the frontstrap checkered and I didn't feel the defender was worth the cost to do, I came across this place:

Machine Checkering 1911

I know absolutely nothing about them. But their price on checkering was way less than any other place I checked. I have seen pictures of their work. It seems to be top notch.

Get some skate board tape and cut it to size. It cost about $10 a sheet from a sporting goods store near you. Don

Frontstrap checkering will vary in price as to the LPI 20/30 and if you want hand checkering or machine checkering.

It is definately worth having done and while your at it and have it at the smith's, go ahead and fork over for a total reliability package and a professional trigger job. Pick a reputable shop, keep your paperwork, reciepts and correspondence so that you can prove the work was done and by whom. Then if you sale it later you can prove what has been done and by whom and add that value to your pistol.

Hero Gear can have it done for you and they are a Supporting Vendor on this site. D&T Arms can have it done for you as well, and they too are a Supporting Vendor on this site.
