5.56 bullets?

Recommended Posts

Posted

I'm looking to buy .223 (5.56) 55 gr. bullets to reload. This will be my first effort for this caliber.

When I access various websites, they all list dimensions as .224. I never see anything labelled .223 or 5.56. What am I missing? Is the .224 what I'm looking for?

Also, if you have any recommendations on websites or brands, please share.

Thanks in advanced and Happy Holidays!

Do you have a good reloading book with load / bullet specs in it - most bullets are an odd dimension compared to the caliber.

Yeah I've got a couple over at the shop. I'll try to remeber to pull the load data we're using. It'll be tomorrow probably. I'm away from the house doing the Turkeyday thang.

PM me so I'll remember...lol.

Yes, .224 is what you're looking for. It is the standard diameter bullet for .223 Rem/5.56 NATO and for almost all 22 centerfires.

The hornady fmj 55s with a boat tail and crimp ring do very well for me. Im sure any of a jillion other brands will too, but those are fairly cheap on top of being well made.

I agree with the Hornady fmj 55grn bullets. FYI, Midway USA has them on special Saturday for $68 for 1000. Best part of using these is that if you like them, they are in current production and available from multiple locations.

You should PM our very own DLM37015. He will hook you up as cheap as anyone.

This is a good idea. Good man.

Yeah he is, I bought some surplus powder and pile of ss109's from him.

I need to get some more from him.

Have you tried the Reloader's Bench in Mt. Juliet? It might be worth giving them a call. They sell guns, etc, but specialize in (gasp) reloading supplies. They literally have bins of bullets sitting out. It's just north of I-40 at the Mt. Juliet Rd. exit.
