Went over to Skip's firearms today and picked up the Norinco synthetic SKS that's pictured on his website http://www.skipsfirearms.com/usedlist.htm Paid $200 and I think it's a good price for the gun. Mark one more off the list to buy before November.

This is my first SKS, so I might ask some stupid questions. If there is any advice anyone has please feel free to post it up, no matter how simple it may be about these guns.

Dont bother trying to use aftermarket magazines, they are generally all junk. Stick with stripper clips. You should be able to buy a bunch of the stripper clips for cheap.

If you do buy stripper clips take a cartridge and run it back and forth in the clip a whole mess of times. It helps loosen them up a touch making them function better.

You can get them from CTD and a lot of gunshops sell them too. i kept buying a few at a time until I had enough to fill a narrow ammo box. I think it hold about 380 rounds or so. I think i have about 50 clips, give or take.

The SKS is a fantastic gun. I really wish i hadnt sold mine. It and the AK are the workin mans gun. :)

I like shooting the SKS over the AK as it is more comfortable to me. They are great little carbines, good shooters, and tough as nails.

I've had several SKS's, have a pretty nice one now. The only high cap mags I gotten to work was the Chinese 20 rounder with the commie star. I still had to tweek it a little. The chamber has no angle or ramp for feeding and some of the mags wont allow the tip of the round to enter the chamber all the time but I spred out the rails(if that's the correct terminology), so the tip of the round enters the chamber.
