Knoxville area gunsmith questions

Greetings folks,

My dad has a few rifles we need to have serviced and I wanted to ask if anyone had an opinions based on experience for the place to take the following weapons for... well... full overhauls?

32 cal. Winchester model 1892

32 cal. Remington single shot

Remington .22 auto

I guess my main question is if any particular shop in the Knoxville and surrounding area is better or worse on older rifles? My secondary question is what the "going" rate is on gunsmith work? Is there an average hourly rate or is it all up to the individual smith/shop? I don't wanna have to take these things all over town shopping to make sure I'm not getting screwed on price :hiding:

Thanks,

Jason

I've had a couple of S&W revolvers worked on at Predator Custom Shop. They have a master gunsmith who is very good and his rate has been reasonable for both guns (action job $65, end shake repair $35). The work done on my guns has been excellent. They also do the work for our Knoxville Police Department. Not sure how they would do with very old rifles.

I've also heard positive things about a man named Shannon who works at Coal Creek Armory, but have never had any work done there. Good luck, B

There are several 'smiths at Coal Creek Armory. Between them they have seen and worked on about everything. Would take my older guns there. Predator is great, but my impression is that they are involved more in modern firearms, tactical specialties, etc. , but that's just my feeling, both have quality reputations.
