Demolished my iPad this morning...

Went to leave for work around 4 this morning. Noticed that one of my kids had left a jacket in the driveway. I apparently put my lunch in the car and set my iPad on the roof. Moments later I took off down the road. About 2 minutes into my drive I heard something. Oh well. Not sure what that was. Then about 9 miles later I got stopped at a 3 minute red-light where they are putting in a new bridge. Reached over to the passenger seat to grab my iPad to look at the time clock to see who was there and my iPad wasn't. Then it hit me.

Well a short u-turn and a 15 minute drive latter I found it no more than 500 yards from my driveway. You know right about the spot I hit 60mph or so.

To my delight it had not been run over even though it lay in the road for almost a half hour.

Crazy thing is nothing is broken, well nothing but the obvious glass screen. $40 and a new one is on the way. c6e4e289-7f2f-98e7.jpg

Ouch. Glad it only cost you $40 to replace. You need an Otterbox for it in case there's a next time. :)

I feel your pain Kamikaze, June of 09, I was at a friends doing a tune up my 93 Mustang GT i had just purchased and we were using my laptop to look up the starter solenoid connections because the starter wasn't disengaging after starting the car.

anyhow, we got everything fixed, and went for a test drive, and my brand new laptop that I had just gotten less than 30 days was still sitting on top of the car and didn't even realize it, turned off my friends street and heard a loud whack, looked back to see a laptop doing an endo (end-over-end) on the street and into the ditch.

The gracious folks over at Dell only charged me $230 (half of the cost I was quoted) after they learned I was a college student, had to get a new hard drive, monitor and case for it, but it's still running today, but I gave it to my Mom this past spring as I upgraded.

stuff like that'll make ya sick to your stomach. glad you're getting it fixed relatively cheap.

Apple does build quality stuff. I once washed my original iPhone in a pants pocket - didn't find it until I heard a rhythmic thumping coming from the dryer - and after letting it sit for a few days in sealed container of oat meal (to absorb the humidity) it worked just as it did new.

Still does, to this day.

otter box is the way to go...

I had one for my iPhone 4, they are just so bulky. I have seen the iPad defender. All the kids at the local private school have them at church. There just so big. This one has survived my kids for over a year. Just not so lucky with the road. :)

Yah, Applecare+ is far better than any case.

I've got to agree with this! Although I've never owned an iPad, I've had otter box cases on my last two phones and it's saved them from some real bad situations.

My Otterbox is beat to hell, my iPhone, not at all. I've dropped it, I've thrown it.....I got pissed, I've dropped it some more, the phone still looks new! Yes it does add some bulk, but it still fits in my front or back pocket fine.

I thought you were going to say your iPad was a total loss, but $40 for a new glass, wow, I'm impressed.

Otterbox has several different models. The Defender is bulky, but they have options that are much smaller. The smaller the package, the less it protects, but you can choose your bulk/ protection ratio. I have a Otterbox Reflex on my iPhone. Best protection available (other than Defender) but much slimmer than a Defender.

I think you might be surprised...

Friend of mine dropped his on his concrete floor, in his house, shattered it. Took it to the Apple store to see what it would cost to fix, told them what happened - and they handed him a brand new one...
