Time for a gun safe

I found an easy decision and a simple solution to this safe thread. I just bought insurance its much safer then a safe, not only does it cover theft but is fire rated at a billion degrees for as long as the fire can burn.

True, but I keep other stuff in my safe too. Family photos, important documents, digital media, and other stuff like that that's not covered under insurance and is a pain to replace if it's even possible to do so.

Insurance does not keep your guns out of the hands of the scum that would steal them and use them in the worst possible way. Also, insurance could not replace some of the guns that were handed down to me from my ancestors. To each his own, but I personally prefer the safe in conjunction with a home alarm system. Oh and there is Brute who doesn't care for dog toys, but prefers to chew on stangers.

Dang. There IS truth in this post. Go look at the boxes and ask questions. Very few people will wind up buying the BEST. It's a big ticket item, so everybody's needs/budgets are going to be different.

If I had a $400,000 gun collection, I would buy a top-of-the-line Browning because they protect the contents better than their second tier. If I had a $400,000 house, I may do the same because they look sexy. I'm a Browning fan for a number of reasons... alot of it is just personal preference

I have a lower end Browning because I could justify it after doing the legwork. a big part of my choice was cosmetic. If my funds would have been more limited, I may have gone the Tractor Supply route. Either way, I would have known what I was getting.

Pipe down you. I was asking the two safe guys. As my original question stated or unless you are in the safe selling business now....stay tuned for an educated answer from someone who is. I have stood in front of many and as it turns out I am not even looking for one at this time. But a great recommendation I'll take any day.

Perhaps. I have a few firearms that are well over fair market value simple for the fact that they are irreplaceable family heirlooms as far as I'm concerned. Even if I take out a policy to cover them to the extent that (IMO) they should be, I still can never get them back once they are ash.

So what is the best safe money can buy? And then what is the best bargain safe for the buck? Whats a middle of the road safe? This question is for the safe sellers only.

This is my opinion on the questions that you asked,

The best safe money could buy would be a TR (torch attack) TL (tool attack) 60 x 6 safe. This would protect you from torch and tool attack for 60 minutes on all six sides of the safe , with multiple relockers , protected by glass plates in front of the lock as well as hard plate that is a night mare to drill trough. A safe like this would be kinda pricey, in the 40 to 50k range new and very heavy, the last one we installed for a jewelry store weighed over 12 thousand pounds, that was a fun day ! Graffunder makes a high end Gun Safe that has very thick metal and a good fire rating they start in the $6000 range.

The best middle of the road safe would be a upper end quality gun safe , a few brands to consider would be the Browning Medallion, Gold or Platinum. The Liberty Lincoln or Presidential . The Champion Crown or Triumph series and the American Security BF series. Fort Knox makes a good safe but it a little pricey for what you get for your money, but still a good safe.

Best bang for the buck would be the Browning Silver, Bronze or Sporter. The Liberty , Franklin, Colonial . The Champion Trophy and Medalist or the American Security SF series. The Winchester Ranger or Silverado are good safes for the money, I don't like the lower end Winchester safes.

Like anything else which brand someone likes is subjective , but I have been selling safes for almost 19 years and have seen the good with the bad. We do service work for most of the major safe brands in the Middle Tennessee area and we have seen who stands behind their safes and who doesn't , who makes a quality product and who's safes are always having problems. There are a lot of safe brands out their but I would recommend that you buy a safe from a company that stands behind their safes , not just on paper but actually covers their safes when you need it.

do you have a price range you want to stay in 500 to 800 800 to 1200 1200 to 1500 this will get us in a ball park of which way to go winchesters are good bang for the buck on 12 gauage body the have done some improvments this last year

I concur with the above. A few months ago I visited their store in Nashville, after a bunch of on-line research. To make a long story short, ended up purchasing their Liberty Fat Boy. Wanted a quality safe that I wouldn't out grow. Came with the door organizer that works great. Had mechanical lock I paid extra to have changed to electronic.

They have a very large selection and price range. They took the time to educate me on safes, the type of knowledge you really can't get and see on-line. Their prices are very competitive. The delivery was fast. The delivery guys were great. Would buy from them again no doubt.

The only thing I didn't care for was the surcharge for using credit / debit card, but that's just passing on the extra expense they incur.
