as with most things, maybe a little more with NV, you get what you pay for. And it depends on what you're planning to do with it. I've got a buddy with some really nice NV. Upwards of 3K each, both are gen3 and are amazing. I've shot his .223 using one of the monoculars behind a EOtech and it's pretty nice. Super clear and very bright. But it's 3K, or maybe you can find one for a little less if you keep your eye out.

I wanted something but couldn't spend the big bucks, many said just save your money up for something good. Well, that's an awful lot of saving for me. Instead, even after some said don't waste your money, I decided to buy one of the Yukon gen1 units. No it's not as good, no where near but it does work. I think the one I bought is online for about $400 or $450, I found a near new one on line from a private owner for $250. It was not exactly the one I wanted, but the price was right and figured I'd resell it if I didn't like it.

I've got it mounted on my AR 20" and I can make a pretty good group in the dark with it. It's limited to about 100 yds depending on the size of your target. I've taken two yotes at about 70 yds when they were causing problems with livestock. I would eventually like to get a better unit that would offer a higher magnification, but I'm pleased with what I have. I'm not likely to get a shot at anything farther than 100 yds anyway.

You can cheat a little with the gen1 units by getting a good IR light source.

There are some new digital NV scopes out there. They compare with GEN3+ and the most expensive ones are a little over $1,000. You can buy a decent one for under $300 that will work as well as most GEN 2 traditional scopes.

Plenty of info on google:

Thanks for the info so far.

This will primarily be for night plinking with a suppressed .22 or .45 out to no further than 80 yards or so.

If anybody has one they could give me a demo on sometime that would be great. I'd like to have an idea of what I'm getting before I make any purchases.
