Bought a RI 1911 CS the other day. Took it to the range and put about 300 rounds through it. Not one single malfunction. Absolutely love this gun. If you are a 1911 fan, you have to get one of these. It has the GI sights. Put some glow piant on the sights and they work great.

RIA's are excellent pistols. Many people dismiss them as cheap or junk because of the low price. That price is the only thing cheap about them.

What he said. I have the "Compact Tactical" version. I had a few issues with proper cycling after a cerakote job, but it has ran 100% for 300 rounds since then. Carrying it now, actually. Highly recommended!

I have shot several and for the money they are great. Something else to realize is it allows shooters to get into the 1911 platform without having to go broke like was the case 5 years ago. And I would wager most people who own 1911's bought an economical model the first time even if $1,000 was the economical choice when they did. These people who buy the RIA's and like 1911's are same people that are likely to upgrade to more expensive models.

Thinking about getting one of these too... I'm waiting for a couple jobs to pay out and I'll probably swing by Bellshire and pick up a Commander.

He's got regular hours, 9-5 Monday - Friday I think. And less on saturday, closed on Sunday. He had a full array when I was in there on Friday.

Love my Rock Island commander! I've owned a bunch of guns, but for the money, the Rock Island is hard to beat.

How difficult would it be to fit an ambi safety in that Commander? I want a smaller 1911 but I'm a lefty.

I don't know, but I have one ordered. I'm a lefty as well. I understand they range from drop in to a bit of filing/sanding.

Also I have used Kimber, Colt and Chip McCormick mags. All work fine. I shot some Dirty Tula ammo to try and gum it up. The little thing just kept going.

Fitting an ambi safety is going to be the same as fitting it to any other standard 1911.

ditched the old grips and put some nice checkered walnut grips. Picked up a bianchi paddle holster. We are good to go. This might be my everyday carry gun.

I got mine (my wife picked it up as a B-day gift from Bellshire) two weeks ago with the intent of it being my EDC. I got a good paddle holster for it and I've got about 400 rounds though it without a hiccup except when I was shooting Tulamo FMJ. I got 3 back to back stovepipes on the first three shots. Switched back to Winchester and Federal - no problem. Guess it just doesn't like the steel case.

On the topic of mags - mine really likes the Sig brand one that the guy at Bellshire tossed in for free when my wife told him it was my Birthday.

My wife got me some rubberized grips for it and when I get my carry permit (used my 1911 CS to qualify on Thursday - just have to get to the DMV now) I may toss them on for ease of IWB carry - but I sure do love the look of those wooden grips!

My wife loves it too, btw. After shooting mine, she wants one herself. This is the same woman that wont' shoot a 9mm because she doesn't like the recoil - she says the .45 RIA has less recoil that the 9mm glock she shot. Who am I to argue with a woman with a gun? She's taking her HCP class on the 29th and I might just have to get her one before then (you don't think I'm going to let her use MINE do you? Crazy talk.)

That is awesome. The Rock island is the best bang for your buck. I looked at a few Kimbers. I am just not going to pay that much money. I could get two RIA's for what I pay for 1 Kimber. If you research the RIA's the majority of people love them. The Customer service is second to none.

Yes, I know Steelharp is gone, but when I saw this...I just had to smile. Brought back memories.

Miss you buddy.
