10/22 barrel threading

Pretty nice job of threading a standard 1022 peg barrel by a friend of mine who teaches SF snipers at Ft Campbell. Note that he cut down the intergral 10/22 sight base and used it as the shoulder. I tested this barrel today using a friend's Yankee Hill Mite with SV subsonics. No baffle strikes and very nicely done. I have got to get to Guns and Leather and get a supressor of my own.

Nice. I had Que from RFC chop an OEM barrel down to 16", recrown it, and thread it. I am very pleased with it. Wish I had the funds for a suppressor.

Craig, Is that yankee hill mite "really quiet" ? Is it strictly a 22 suppressor or can it be used for other cals ?

Like a supressor expert told me: there isn't more than 2 or 3 db difference between .22 supressors so cleaning is the real issue. The Mite can be cleaned, is not a full auto supressor, and makes any bolt or pump supressed .22 very quiet. I think the 10/22 action itself is louder than a supressed subsonic .22 round.

I was out shooting a 10/22, Mite, CCI Sub combo yesterday in my backyard. There were some kids playing football about 3 yards away and they never noticed.

I know the Mite isn't the best suppressor out there, but for the price and it's ease of cleaning I think it's a good buy.

I think I bought mine for $225.

I have had a couple of supressor enthusiasts recommend the Silencerco Sparrow Stainless Steel. Supposed to be expensive but worth it. I'll probably go with Yankee Mill Mite as I am only plinking with .22LR.

I alsojust received a threaded 1:9 twist .10/22 barrel from Tactical Innovations to shoot 60 grain Aguila subsonics.

Craig, you should give the Huntertown Arms Guardian a try. Most people are saying that the performance is on par with the sparrow but it is considerably cheaper.

Huntertown is also releasing a new model called the kestrel that should offer a great new baffle design.

But the SS Sparrow is way easier to clean than anything out there. No more beating baffles out or any of the other problems with rimfire suppressors. You can media blast or dip the can to clean the lead out.

Considering 22 suppressors need to be cleaned regularly I would consider the additional cost as money saved when you consider how much quicker they are to clean.

And with the Huntertown Arms Guardian being aluminum you are limited on how you can clean it. You can't media blast it because it will wear the aluminum away. You can't dip them because the hydrogen peroxide eats aluminum. That leaves you with scraping them clean by hand which can be very, very tedious. ANd if you do have to beat the baffles out the aluminum of the baffles or tube will get deformed over time. One more thing if the threads are aluminum, which I suspect they are, they will wear out with repeated use as well.

No I don't own a Sparrow but I did do a lot of research before building my own suppressor. And that is why I used all SS inside and out on mine. I can media blast it and it is clean very quickly.

The guardian is available in SS as well.

And the kestrel that I mentioned uses the same tube but the baffles are designed to snap together in a way that prevents any fouling from getting between the tube and baffles.
