Clinton Police Chief Rick Scarboro says that shooting victim Larry Snellings, an employee of the South Clinton Pawn Shop, has died of his injuries.

Previous story

Clinton Police are investigating a shooting at a pawn shop which sent two men to the hospital.

The shooting was reported at 2:15 Monday at the South Clinton Pawn shop on Clinch Ave.

According to Police Chief Rick Scarboro, James Alan Greene, who is in his 60's, went into the pawn shop and asked to see a shot gun. It was handed to him, unloaded.

Investigators said Greene apparently brought ammunition with him, because he loaded the weapon, and during a brief struggle, allegedly shot pawn shop employee Larry Snellings, 58. Chief Scarboro said another pawn shop employee apparently returned fire, hitting Greene, who then fled the store.

Ten minutes later, a 911 call came in from Greene's wife, who said her husband came home with a gunshot wound. She did not know the circumstances of the shooting when she made the call.

Snellings was transported to Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge by ambulance. Greene was transported to UT Medical Center by Lifestar helicopter. Conditions on the two men are not available at this time.

I'm sad to hear this too. I know all the folks that work at South Clinton Pawn. Larry was a great friend and fine man. Our prayers and sincere condolences are with his family and all those at South Clinton Pawn. This is a great loss.
