So, leaving in the a.m. for Montreal for two weeks (working vacation - oxymoron, I know). Anyone make any recommendations? I'll be staying around the Bell Centre at the "Le Nouvel" hotel. Anyone know anything about the underground city, or where I should visit for sightseeing?

I used to go there in the summer back in the '80s. I can't be of much help other than to tell you you'll have a great time. If your'e flying, you won't need a car unless you have to leave the city. You can underground and walk to everything. Mont Royal, Hudson Bay store, Old Town, lots of great architecture. It's a very international city. I think more so than NYC. Any food you can imagine.

A couple of colleges in the city. I never had any trouble at all with the locals and I wasn't scorned for not speaking French. Just be polite, relax, and have a good time. Wish I could go with you.

Having quite a bit of fun so far. Even though I prefer to live rural, it's nice to visit places like this. Everyone has been very polite, though my wife does not like the women asking me to "say something southern US". These guys switch from French to English seamlessly. Pretty impressive.

A friend is French Canadian (I know, I claim him anyway...). He says when people find out he speaks French, large women frequently ask him to say something to them in French. The translation of his typical response, spoken very seductively, is "Stop eating so many ho-ho's, you fat cow." The women giggle and swoon. Anyone within earshot who speaks French struggles to contain their laughter. Ah, the language of romance. :puke:
