Hello there, i've recently been doing research into different scope mounts for my 91/30 Mosin. I hear mixed reviews on both the scout scope and the receiver-drilled mount. Honestly i enjoy my rifle with the iron sights (good enough for Simo good enough for me.) so i may opt to just keep her stock. Just curious if anyone has had any good luck with either of the two set-ups; or if overall the enjoyment at the range was increased. Thanks-

If you decide to use a scope mount on a Mosin, there is only one choice, "Rock Solid".

For iron sights, a "Mojo" sight will save you a lot of grief making one accurate.

Agreed on the Mojo sights. WAY too much money for what it is, but it is the only thing like it out there

The Mojo is a awesome sight. I've never seen one on a Mosin but, my brother in law has a SKS with one and it helps a lot. I agree on the Rock Solid mount. They're expensive though. But, from what I hear, the name says it all. I just use the standaed sights on all 3 of mine.

Iron sights all the way. Get your marksmanship on!

If I ever scoped on it would be the rear sight mount style. I know it's just a Mosin and there were 36 million of them made (of all flavors, and there were a lot) but I'm 100% against irreparably modifying mil-surps.

Wow, i really like the setup of the Mojo system, looks like it would be on par with the 1903A3 springfield peepsight. From what i read grouping dident improve much from irons but target aquistion was considerably faster. Honestly the Mojo sight is the way i will probably go with. First week and i'm already glad i joined this forumn, its great to be able to have all my options laid in front of me. Thanks again. - W

T'>M91/30 Mosin Nagant Scope mount utilizes Scout Scope | eBayhis is what I have and it is solid as a rock. You will need a drill press or a friend who works at a machine shop to mount it though. Works great with a standard long eye relief scope

This. I would say use a mount that does no damage if at all possible. Another idea: I think there is a kit out there that you can use to make your gun a reproduction sniper model -- which is mainly a reproduced period scope mount and maybe a reproduced scope (?). It still modifies/damages the gun, but at least its semi authentic and sorta cool looking.

Well, based on looking inside the receiver on mine and seeing that there used to be two holes there that were filled in when it was 'rearsinaled' or whatever the correct term is (filled holes which are not even slightly visible from the outside), mine appears to be an ex-sniper. Therefore, if I ever decide to mount a scope on it, I will probably go to the trouble/expense of getting all the required parts, having those holes re-tapped, having the (shiny, new) bolt handle properly bent and putting it back 'right'. Trouble is that would cost more than I paid for the rifle. In fact, I could probably find a used, serviceable bolt action hunting rifle in .308 or 30-06 - already set up for a scope - and be in a comparable power class using ammo I can buy at Walmart for less than such a 'restoration' would cost. For that reason as much as anything, I doubt there will ever be a scope on my Mosin-Nagant.

This is what Bubba usually does not understand. By the time you are done, you could have gone down to WalMart and bought a brand-new Savage or whatever for about the same money spent.

I agree i really like the setup for the PU scope, very authentic. But with prices upwards of $400 i'd be better off re-buying a sniper mosin. I still really like the Mojo sight system and i think that will be my next purchase. She shoots right where i point her, and my eyes arent too bad so scoping it really doesent matter that much.

I also agree that one would be better off going down to Walmart and purchasing a scoped rifle thats already set-up. But come on we all want to reenact Enemy at the Gates and a savage just dosent have the same feel....
