Rifle season. What are you carrying this year?

Why tone them down? The recoil is not as bad as you would think.

Right now the load I'm shooting is home cast 330gr hollow point boolits with 50gr Realoader7 behind it.

I will be carrying my trusty Marlin 1895 in 45-70. It has been cut down to 16" and is about the perfect woods gun me. Carries easily, swings fast and hits hard.

For woods hunting, I'll be using my Marlin 1895ss in 45-70.

For shooting across big bean fields, my Stevens 200 in .25-06.

Well as stated, I'm a recoil wuss. I have the '95 CB with the 26" octagon barrel and that thing bumped me hard with the butt plate. I put a recoil pad on it but haven't shot it since. I hope it tamed it back some. I haven't started reloading for the 45-70 yet but will soon enough. I'll take slow and accurate over fast and scattered any day.

Your manlier than I. That thing looks like it would stomp my ____ in the dirt! Even with adrenaline going off the charts. I'm a recoil wuss. You reload for it? Tone 'em down a bit?

I do not reload. I am shooting the 325gr Horandy Leverevolution loads. I am a big(fat) guy and absorb recoil pretty well. It has a good thump but it's not to bad.

It is. I have had probably over 30 different deer rifles over the years(i have gun a.d.d.) and always come back to this one. Not my choice for hunting big open areas, but for the woods around here it is perfect.

One of two Rugers, both M77 Mark II's. One is a SS 338 Win Mag that i mainly use when i am hunting in North Georgia where there is also bear and hogs. the other is a blued 257 Roberts. Both guns have Ruger's Zytel skeleton stocks on them. Also may try to take a deer with my Ruger Super Blackhawk 44 magnum with 10" barrel.

Nope. Had mine for more than 25 years. Been offered more than ten times what I paid for it and wouldn't part with it for ten times that much. Gotta' be my favorite long gun of all time.

Which barrel will be loaded?

When just knocking about in the woods, I can be found carrying one of several rifles, depending on my mood. When I'm serious about deer hunting, I'll have my model 70 Winchester Featherweight in 280 Remington.

Both. The 20ga will be loaded with slugs, the .357 with Magtech 158gr fmjfp.

Don't need to be fancy, just accurate enough in your hands to be deadly.

The first deer rifle I ever had was a Marlin 336cs .30-30 with a Bushnell 4x32 scope. I still have the scope on another rifle. I was stupid and traded the rifle though. It was a good little rifle and shot pretty good.
