Help with upcoming purchases...

It's never to early to think about the next big ticket item you're going to purchase and in my case all I can do is think about it for the next couple months. I know around tax season my wife WILL be getting a new car, I don't like the Ford Escape she has now and it's only fair since I have gotten the last 2 new vehicles we've had. So with that out of the way I gave my wife a choice, over seas vacation (Ireland or Scotland) or new tile for the kitchen (about 650 sq. ft) she chose the vacation.

Now it comes to my choices...I need a gun safe. I don't have one and I know it's bad of me not to with a 3 year old and as many guns as I have. I need something that I can grow into and don't have to worry too much about over filling. I have about 22 or so long guns and about 18 pistols, I would also like to keep the important documentation and my wife's jewlery in it when she's not wearing it. It will be going on the first floor of my house in the guest bedroom and I have a wall that is about 10 ft long to put it on. I want something that has a good fire rating, an hour would be nice. I would also like it to have a digital pad to get into with since I suck as combination locks (subject to change and I know it is an option on most safes). I have about 2k to spend on this and would like some input. I went to The Safe House in Nashville about 5 months ago and looked at a nice 40 gun safe that was a tall model (extra sheld on top) and I believe it was a Browning. I have about 2-3 other people here with me at work that are looking to get one around the same time as I am, I'm not sure of their requirements though, so if anyone knows where we could get a group deal that would be awesome as well.

Next set of choices....I want a new Sig, but I also want a good 1911. Price really doesn't matter in this case but I would like to keep it around 1k to keep the peace at home. I've already gotten a P6 and a P226 which my wife has confiscated for herself so I need something for me. The P6 is a '79 West German and the P226 is a '98 German with no import markings. I was thinking of a nice P228, if I can find one, or a P229 just so I know it will also fit my wife's hands and maybe I'll get back my P226. Since the majority of the pistols I shoot are some form of .45, I figured that getting a P220 would only go along with what I normally have at the range anyways. I do like the older Sigs with the larger triggers, not too fond of that skinny little trigger most have now. I also thought about getting a Sig 1911, I saw someone showing off their Sig POW/MIA 1911 not too long ago, but short of finding one used it looks like I probably missed the run on those. Help me decide, I still have a few months before I start letting loose my money. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

You will never regret buying a good safe. You'll also never regret buying from the Safe House. It was a tough purchase for me, spending that much money on a box for my guns. I was extremely happy with my purchase, and still am. I have a big old box in my house, but get a warm and fuzzy feeling when I look at the Browning logo.

Use their delivery service too. It's also not cheap, but is as close to perfect as anything I've seen. Not one scratch on the house, the safe, or me.

It was worth every penny.

What ever ya decide to do on a gunsafe; buy one about twice as big as ya think you will need and it will be the right size (....for a while-- anyway...).

good luck,

+1 on the delivery service thats the way to go. I didn't use the safe house because we're outside of Knoxville and it's been years ago. No way could I have done the safe, with delivery it was quick and easy.h
