It's amazing that the truth is so misunderstood. This sheriff is so right. He knows he can't protect

anyone. Just mop up at the end.

I really like this sheriff! I wish he was the sheriff in our town, he is not only willing to voice his beliefs but a lot of my beliefs. He needs to be thanked not put down for wanting people to protect them selves. IMO

Agreed!! But so many nut jobs in the world I don't ever see people like this guy being awarded with anything.

That's the reason we all should be carrying like the good sheriff suggested, SO MANY NUT JOBS IN THIS WORLD.

I have to 2nd blackbeltchick on that one! You can't carry a cop on you 24/7. We have to be able to defend ourselves if needed.

"He's blaming the victim," said Melonea Marek, executive director of People Against Rape.

No, he's attempting to help empower other, potential victims.

And Caroline Brewer, spokeswoman for the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, told Reuters that a 2009 study found that people who carry guns are 4.5 times more likely to be shot than people who don't.

And people who drive cars are more likely to be involved in car wrecks. I wouldn't be surprised if that 'study' included people who carry guns and use them for things like armed robbery, etc. Of course those folks are going to be at an 'increased risk'. I wonder if it includes LEO, as well - being that their jobs would likely increase their risk. That statistic just sounds suspect, to me, and I would have trouble believing that a law abiding, private citizen who legally carries increases his or her risk of being shot by that great a factor.

'Liberals'.

I'd bet cash money that Melonea Marek could care less about women who decline to be victims. Her organization needs rape victims in order to generate cash.

As for Brady, they lie. They've lied for years, been caught out many times. If they said the sky was blue I'd expect an eclipse. Any resemblance to actual facts on their part is purely accidental and entirely unintended.

You are correct about the study. It does not take into account many factors that would eliminate them from the study. It's just like every other anti-gun "study": full of holes that are pointed out the day after the study is released. But glaring flaws have never stopped Brady from touting a study for years after it was debunked.

"people who carry guns are 4.5 times more likely to get shot"

(But 5000x times less likely to get raped.)

The whole primis of gun control is that a woman lying dead in an alley, strangled by her own panty hose ,after a brutal rape is somehow moraly superior to the woman explaing to the cops why she shot her attacker.

In 1972 or 73 there was an escaped convict rapist prowling around Augusta Ga. The local police and sheriff urged women to carry a gun, no permit required. We were notified that there would be no prosecutions for carrying a gun as long as the louse was free.

 to mrl4ng and cardcutter. Definitely agree.

I was recently surprised to hear about the gun confiscation that happened during Hurriane Katrina. When I told a fellow firearms fan about it, he actually sided with the government. And while I can see what the government was trying to do, I still can't stand by them taking away people's guns. Thoughts?

Haha thats a long topic worthy of a new thread....but your not gonna get anyone siding with the gun confiscators.
