New old Ithaca1911A1

:)I carried a Ithaca 1911 in Vietnam back in 1967.

This one found a home with me this week.

That is a fine looking pistol, looks as if it’s been arsenal reconditioned or even better was never issued. I’m certain your new addition has found a home, hopefully you have a family member you will pass it on to in time.

It was made in 1943 and arsenal reconditioned in Augusta, Ga at the Augusta Arsenal, but I have no idea when. All parts with markings show them to be true to the 1943 time frame. Very nice for being 68 years old. Also it is a double mark, the slide is also marked M 1911A1 US ARMY as well as the frame.

Paperwork shows it being taken out of service in 1962.

Very nice 1911. What heppened to ithaca company ? I had a lever action single shot 20 ga Ithaca . Left it at my parents when i moved out and it was stolen.

Very nice. Good piece of history. My dad inherited a nice 1944 Remington Rand 1911 from my Great Grandfather. He sold it to buy a tv.

I also have a Remington-Rand 1911 shipped from the Texarkana Arsenal in 1962 as part of NRA's DCM gun purchase program. Is that the date it was actually taken out of service?

I still remember reading the pre-68 GCA firearm's add's in the American Rifleman as a teenager and thinking how expensive the surplus gun's were. Given that I didn't have any money at that time and age they were, it just sure would have been nice to have purchased a few for collection investment. ;-)
