Tumbler function/operation question

Recommended Posts

Picked up a Frankford Arsenal quick n easy tumble and have a qestion about its function and operation. This tumbler has a clear cover so I can see it while it works. I seems to just shake the media and brass and moves it in a circular pattern. The demos I have seen on youtube show the contents moving toward the center and rotating from top to bottom.

Mine does not do this. I filled it about 2/3 full with corn cob media and about 400 9mm brass. I ran it for about 2 hours and it seem to clean it well and has a decent polish shine to it. Does this seem to be normal or ok? I can still return this itme no questions asked, but since it seems to clean the brass I wonder if I should do anything. I am more concerned that it is not working to its full abilities now and will not last long.

Thanks!

A cap full or two of Nufinish car polish and a used dryer sheet works really well in the tumbler. I cap full or so of minerial spirits added to it also helps them come out clean ,lubed and ready fer sizing. Works with corn cob or walnut media.

The dryer sheet or paper towel picks up the fine dust from the media and helps keep it clean longer.

Use a cheep light timer and set it for 5 hours if you doing so many and they be spankey clean when you check-em.

I have read of people on-line adding things like mineral spirits but I figure I have enough flammable crap around. I seem to be constantly combating static issues, too (although a liquid or semi-liquid like Nu Finish may help with that) so i just dont want to add fuel to the fire (pun intended :D).

The reason I am responding - 5 HOURS??? Seriously?!?! If I forget I may let my stuff run for an hour but its usually 30 - 45 minutes to get my brass a shinin' (and I was in the Navy, I know something about shining brass!).

I agree I think the OP is putting to much brass in the tumbler. I wouldn't think it would hurt the tumbler just slow things down. I have not heard of using mineral spirits but have used dryer sheets and Nu Finish car polish. The Nu Finish seems to help quite a bit. Don
