.. could beat UT half the time with any team in the SEC given two weeks' practice.

Maybe with MTSU, UTC, or Carson Newman, too.

UT is the only reason UT lost tonight. No positives came from this game for UT. None.

Play calling was horrible. Starting Worley was a stupid decision. The onside kick to start the 2nd half was terrible. Dropped passes everywhere. The decision to go for it on 4th down when you are in FG range in the 4th quarter was idiotic. It would have been a one possession game if you make it.

Spurrier made a nice call on the QB draw where they scored. UT was held on that play but it wasnt called. SC's first TD was a blown play by a LB when he got caught by the play action.

It was more mistakes by UT that cost them this game than anything Spurrier or USCjr did.

Spurrier is 11-6 over Voles overall, even limping along with the Gamecocks managing 4-3, and including one win with li'l ole Duke. One can debate game by game, but seems SOS himself has clearly been primary difference overall to me.

You won't get a debate from me about his record against the Vols. He owned UT when he was at UF.I think he has lost a step though, the old Spurrier would have went for the TD late in the 4th tonight. Maybe he has mellowed in his age. :biglol:

UT frankly sucks. I guess this is why Hamilton fired Fulmer in the most disruptive manner possible.

Right now Spurrier could beat ut with 11 cub scouts on offense and two parking cones and nine pumpkins on defense. cause those parking cones can cover...

The 14th ranked team in the country only scoring 14 on the lowly Vols does not seem to indicate superior coaching. if he was such a great coach, why didn't he win a super bowl?

College success clearly does not always carry ovver to the NFL, and visa versa.

And i bet if bothers the hell out of the old ball coach that he can't spell his name without UT

Yeah, he's gotten lots of criticism like that through the years, generally right after he beats you.

That's rich!

What part of my statement isn't true? He had a "superior" team and could only manage a weak win over a very undermanned UT squad. I agree he is a good coach and has been over the years, but perhaps he may even be a better recruiter.

My favorite Spurrier quote is from when he was HC of the Redskins. When asked about some play call that did not work, he said, "Well, hindsight is 50-50."

hate to say it, but the Vols need to get out of the SEC if they want a chance to win anything relevant anytime soon. A switch to the Big 12 or the Big East or ACC would probably help them fare better.

I know UT has started 16 freshman this year and last year, but I don't think Dooley's really the man for the job. He's in over his head and out of his league in the SEC. the conference is just way too competitive and has too many coaches who are elite, and have teams that are just dominant year in and year out. With Muschamp at Florida, it won't take long for them to become a powerhouse again. Chizik will get Auburn back on track (losing Cam Newton has proven detrimental), Auburn and LSU don't rebuild, they just reload annually. Georgia at some point (when they fire that moron Richts...snicker) will get good again.

Spurrier is outdated though, I dont know if he's lost a step in recruiting or what, but that killer instinct he always had at UF seems to have faded. Honestly surprised he chose to go S.Carolina to begin with. I think he may have fared better going to Auburn or Alabama, or jumping ship for the ACC.

UT leave the SEC, now thats rich.

well UT either needs to get a head coach who can compete with Chizik, Saban, Miles and Muschamp, or they need to leave the SEC. if they stick with Dooley, they'll always be average.

Mike Leach would make for a great hire, at least he's someone who can run with the big dogs. Sorry but the Dooley experiment is laughable at best.

A win is a win. We didn't play than well either. SC made just as many mistakes. I remember when I went to school at USC and we would win 1 out of 10. The crowd still stayed and didn't abandon their team. UT fans jump ship before the half. UT fans are some of the winiest I have ever met. BTW Spurrier is not leaving USC because of the perks. He also manage to recruit the some of the best players in the nation the last two years. I for one am glad after 30 years USC has had some sucess these past few years.

I guess my most memorable experiance as we were leaving Neyland was being called #$%&* Suckers

by middle aged UT fans with their children present while I was walking with mine to the car.

Its look like the gamecocks jumped from 14 to 10 on the AP poll so some thought it wasn't such a freebie win I know there was some upsets this week, but just saying

Yea I don't think UT is gonna be going anywhere anytime soon. Vandy, UK, Ole Miss, MSU, Ark, and USCjr would all be gone before UT left. They bring in too much money, have too many wealthy alums, and too much tradition to leave.

Dooley may not be the man for the job. I don't know, you don't know. UT is about where most sane people expected them to be. Before the season I though they might pick up either the UGA, UF, or USCjr game. After Hunter went down, I thought they might win only one of those. Then after Bray went out I knew we would be 0 for October. Just not enough talented upper classmen there yet. If it goes bad for the Vols next year, Dooley has a problem. Until then only mentally challenged people and people who know nothing about college football will be calling for his job.

Wyatt, since you claim to be a OU fan. Imagine OU without Jones and Broyles. Now imagine OU without Jones, Broyles, and 2 out of 3 of the teams' best defenders. This is where UT is this year.

Went to USC for the golf there.

Wow you UT guys are really hard on your team and new coach VERY HARD.

That is certainly your right but like I said when they hired the guy I do think he is the right man to turn things around and I still believe as much. It seems this Gator has more faith in your future than some of you guys do.

Talk about play calling....If Urban had enough sense to call ANY Tebow up the middle fakes FL could have beaten Bama in their last championship game. That game would have been the perfect time to run such a fake but that man did not have the sense to run a play like that EVER while Timmy was there. You can bet Spurrier would have.

Speaking of the Ole Ball Coach, that SC team never came close to winning squat until he was there, they kept gettin a little better each year until last year they won the East by coming into the swamp and taking it from the Gators, just like I predicted that they would, the year before that they were one game away but FL won in SC. Heck the last year FL won the NC they only beat SC 17-16 in the swamp with a blocked extra point and a blocked field goal at the end of the game.

Ball Coach is going to win the East again this year, he may be getting old but not just any coach could accomplish that with that team. Granted the West will win the conference again this year but these things go in cycles. It will be the East's turn again soon and the Vols will be on the top again as much as it pains me to say as much.

Speaking of pain, it has been 32 years since my Gators lost 4 in a row.....dauuuuuummm! But I knew as much as soon as I saw the schedule. I dont think they have but one win left this year and that will be against Furman...even Vandy will likely beat them this year. But I will STILL bleed Orange and Blue.

UT fans.....I was born here but raised mostly in FL. TN was always my second favorite team in the SEC until I moved here and saw how things were. It certainly isnt all of the fans but some of them are indeed fair weather at best when it comes to being a true fan.

I could tell many stories about my interactions with some of the Vol fans but two that stick in my mind are....

One Saturday we had to work and TN was tearing up my Gators in the first half and the guys on the crew were riding my butt something fierce, FL then scored to open the second half and proceeded to whoop that butt....by the end of the game the same guys who were riding my butt were swearing that they would never watch another UT game...that is not a true fan IMO.

The other story I have told here before. I went to a bar to watch the game and after Fl beat TN 31-0 when I went to leave my truck which had been flying my Gator flags had been keyed so bad it required a whole new paint job and every window in it was busted out. A fan?.....Nope a PUNK that happened to wear Vol colors and claim to be a fan.

Again guys that isnt all the fans just some of them that I have run across.

Yall hang in there and see if this old man isnt right about your return to competition soon, you have a lot of young players and they WILL get better.

Did we even play this weekend? I was in Neyland but I didn't see the Volunteers. Just some stupid orange pants.

Sgt. Joe

I don't think Dooley is the right man for the job but that is still determined. Yes this year we have a few key injuries however our team is lacking so much in so many areas. I give him two more years and we better be beating a USC, UGA, FL, BAMA, UA, LSU, not just Vandy/Kenyucky (which we may not be able to do this year).

From the start of this season, I thought that UT would win the ones they should, they would lose the games they should, and I expected an upset. I thought it would have been Florida. Once the injuries started rolling in, I thought they might have a chance with SC. With all of that, I expect them to win the ones they should, lose the ones they should. Vandy at first was on the should beat side, but after watching the Vandy/AR game, they are a lot stronger than I and many thought, they should have won that game. Dooley seems to be building, but if it goes on into next year, he definitely will have a problem.
