Holy Frigging Crap Part Deux

Recommended Posts

Mayor Willie W. Herenton has decided to leave the office effective July 31st of this year. He intends to pursue other options including the Superintendent of Schools in either Nashville or Knoxville.

This is astounding news for Memphis, but, citizens of these cities, do not be fooled. This man was the superintendent of the Memphis City Schools prior to becoming Mayor. He screwed them up royally.

My guess - he needed to serve a certain number of days in this term for it to count towards a pension and he will get his pension regardless of whether or not he is in jail or under indictment.

I wonder what the real reason is?

Hookers?

That's probably the answer, Dotsun.

Canyn, I wouldn't worry too much about incorporation, every year it gets proposed, and every year the cities of Bartlett, Germantown, and Collierville point out that it could not happen without their approval, and they simply refuse to go along with it.

Slick Willie knew he was going to do this when he was elected this past time. I think he will try to become Supt. of Memphis schools. And I believe Wharton will become mayor. Why do you think he decided not to run against Herenton? Another Memphis back room deal.

SUperintendent of Nashville Schools? WTF?? There is no effing way I would permit that if it were anywhere in my power.

I had a customer who had worked with DEA in Memphis. He told me they had good info he was involved with and profited from drug syndicates. They referred the findings over the Reno Justice Dept and were told "he's a Black mayor in a Democratic city in an election year. THere's no way we're going to prosecute him."

No, you guys in Memphis are stuck with him.

Actually, Rabbi, that makes a good point. It is no longer an election year. Joseph Lee is under indictment. I would imagine there is something happening with that.

As for the Schools, I don't think that will happen.

Scott McCormick of the City council would be mayor for 20 days, then the CFO of the city would be until a special election would be held (probably in November) Carol Chumney, (white woman who gave King Willie a run for his money in the last mayor election) has already said she would run for the office. Willie wants the Memphis superintendent job.

i met chumney at a Tiger Football tailgate. Very nice lady in person. I know little of her stance on anything, but she could make conversation with folks, whereas Willie cannot.

The biggest bunch of crap was his donation of a enormous sum of money to LeMoyne-Owen (a failing historically black college). The enrollment is around 50% of capacity, the degree is worthless, yet because he's an alum, he thought it was good for the city to donate a substantial amount of the city's money to prevent LMOC from losing their accreditation. Perhaps I'm also unhappy that money alone can keep a failing school from losing an academic accreditation. Or that the money would have been better spent a million other ways (the roads comes to mind, but if you want it to be for some type of upper level education, Tigers could always use some fundulation).

The bumper stickers were really good, though.
