Sound problems, if you have video is usually a cabling issue. Check your cables are set right.

Did you finalize it? Not knowing what unit you have, format selected, etc it's hard to help but I found the biggest issue when I first did this was you need to "finalize" the disk in order to play in any standard player.

It said to use this format to play in any devices, the dvd plays in the computer, but on the dvd player it says no audio , no video data, how do you finalize a dvd ? thanks

It's diffent for different machines. I have a stand alone DVD burner and its an option after copying or recording media. It will cost some man card points but.....(read the instructions) Sorry guy.

What format are you referring to?

What DVD burn software are you using?

What kind of DVD are you using (DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-R DL, etc.)?

DVD-RW disks, Windows asked if I wanted to format the disk, I did that before trying to burn it.

Ok, that means it will erase the disk before burning. If you're using brand new disks, then you don't need to do that.

what software are you using (Neo, DVDburnerXP, 1clickDVD, etc.)?

It sounds like you are burning a "data disk" or something other then a DVD.

What DVD burning software came with your Toshiba?

I've had DVD burners in my puters for years but have only burned a handful of video DVD's intended to be set-top player compatible. Just used whatever cheap simple software was bundled with the puter and it worked out OK.

Tip-- MOST well-written pc software will open the online help documents if you run the program and then tap the F1 key. Many programs have hundreds of pages online help under the F1 key. Another place to look is in the Help menu.

One of the nicer multi-media bundles that used to be commonly bundled, dunno if it is still common-- Will make picture slide-show DVD's and movie DVD's (among lots of other neat stuff)-- Nero--

Nero - CD DVD Burning, Video Editing Software, Backup Software - Official Site

I haven't had Nero for a couple of years (haven't needed it lately) but unless they have recently somehow managed to completely ruin it, Nero is pretty good software for the money.

On the other hand, you can buy Adobe Premiere Elements for less than Nero 11 Platinum, and buy a bundle of Premiere Elements and Photoshop Elements for not much more, and IMO those programs are extremely even more gooder for the money.

Adobe Premiere Elements 10

The Adobe Elements programs will do 99.9 percent of what an amateur would want to do with very little frustration, but there is a learning curve. So if you don't want to mess with it very much something simpler would maybe be better.

I get real frustrated with the simplest stripped down programs however because they won't do what I want.

Of course there are a zillion video softwares around.

The simplest cheapest ones will only do a few thangs, and sometimes it is difficult to put up with the limited editing features unless you just don't even care about trimming videos or whatever.

Then there are very expensive and generally complicated programs that ya GOT to have if you are mastering final product for duplication but otherwise a lot of those features and details are a distraction unless you want to go pro.

Then there is stuff "in the middle" like Adobe Premiere Elements.

It is just finding something acceptable and then learning to operate it good enough.

The ordinary write-only discs may be more compatible with set-top dvd players. (Well they are read-only after you burn them. You can't erase them and usually it isn't a good idea to add anything to them later though sometimes that is possible.)

The usual work flow for making "simple easy" dvds--

1. Load all the video clips in the software.

2. Trim them to only the parts that you want to see if that matters. Trim off the unnecessary scenes.

3. Add transitions or whatever if that matters.

4. In the burning first stage, you pick a template of what the menu screen should look like, and type in some customized labels if you want. You lay out what videos you want on the DVD and where you want those videos to appear on the DVD menu screen.

5. Then you answer any other questions it asks, put in a virgin write-only DVD, and click the Burn button.

Look at the manual of your DVD player, it will tell you what disc formats it supports. DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD+RW, DVD-RW, DVD+R DL, DVD-R DL, etc.

if all are listed, then it could be the manufacturer of the disc that is causing the problem. typically Memorex, and other off brands don't works as well as Sony (I will only strictly use Sony to burn a DVD with).

Either Roxio EZ CD Creator or Nero Burn are the best to use.

one other thing, dump the PC, take it back and get a MAC. it'll solve 99.5% of your computer problems, hold it's resale value better than a PC, and it has a 1 in 1,000,000,000,000,000 chance of getting a virus or trojan. <-----this is strictly my opinion based off personal experience. :)
