How does it compare to say, Woodford Reserve?

Is it peppery or smooth? I love me some good bourbon.

Here' a couple of reviews. Everyone tastes are different but I like it better than Woodford Reserve and Four Roses. Also If I have it right Lincoln Henderson who was the master distiller at Woodford Reserve, left them to make his Own, Angels Envy

[h=1]Review: Angel’s Envy[/h] John Hansell

Angel’s Envy, 43.3%, $46Angels-Envy-163x300.jpg

Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey finished in a port pipe. This is veteran master distiller Lincoln Henderson’s newest creation, and it’s a beauty. Richly textured, silky, and well-rounded, with ripe berried fruits, candied tangerine, light toffee, maple syrup, and creamy vanilla, sprinkled with spice (cinnamon, hint of mint). Smooth, silky finish, and dangerously drinkable! The port pipe notes dovetail perfectly. Lovely just the way it is, but it’s begging for a cigar. My only gripe: why not 45 or 50% ABV? But I’m splitting hairs. I really enjoy this stuff!

What makes Angel’s Envy different? It’s a bourbon of at least 4 years of age (reportedly around 5-7 years) that’s been batched and then finished in large port barrels (or “port pipes”) imported from Portugal. After the bourbon takes a slumber in the traditional charred new oak barrels, it’s dumped into the port barrels until Lincoln deems it ready for bottling (reportedly 3-6 months). The result is one of the fruitiest and effortlessly drinkable whiskeys on the market today.

Angel’s Envy Bourbon, $44, 43.3%abv (86.6 Proof)

Color: Deep copper /Russet

Nose: Incredible aromas! Intense Maple Syrup, sweet corn, vanilla, candied dried fruits, rum soaked berries, and gentle oakyness.

Flavor: Maple syrup, corn, dates, raisins, and clove coat the palate. There’s a ripe plum/grapey flavor that adds a fresh fruitiness.

Finish: Sweet maple, toffee, hints of soft spices, and a lingering fruitiness remain.

Overall: Angel’s Envy is a fun whiskey to sip and savor. It’s ever so smooth, sweet, and fruity – definitely one of the best pours I’ve had this year. The nose for me is the star of this show – a real masterclass. It may be just a tad light on the palate, which has me anxiously awaiting their (reported) barrel strength release at the end of the year. Regardless, this is mighty fine bourbon. Highly recommended.

I had the misfortune of trying some George T. Stagg 143 proof Bourbon the other day and now none of my bourbon in my bar stands up to it.

I talked to Midtown Liquor in Nashville and they told me there was a 60 person waiting list when it releases in Mid November, but they only get 1 case a year. So now I must go to Kentucky to search the shelves... :)

Thanks for the kind words about Angel's Envy. We are a small family brand, and thrilled to be in Nashville, with the rest on TN to follow.

One thing I can tell you is that Angel's Envy is unique. One of the most regular comments I hear from our customers is how smooth and complex the bourbon tastes, even at 86.6 proof. You will find it to be different than Woodford Reserve....less woody and maybe a bit lighter...not to know Woodford, as it is one of my favorite bourbons in the world.

You cannot go wrong with the George T. Stagg. Great bourbon, and Buffalo Trace is doing some cool things.

Thanks again for your support, and I firmly support the ideals of your group.

I will have to try to find a bottle somewhere around Memphis. It's a lot lower proof than most of the bourbon I keep around the house, but sometimes you need something with a bit less oomph. The "weaker" stuff also tends to go over better with company.

I saw it in a liquor store here in Bellevue (I love being able to say that) and thought about it, but being primarily a spiced rum man I went with my tried and true Kilo Kai. I look forward to trying this.

I agree! It makes me feel like they really do care about what they're producing, and that's a good thing. I'll have to find a bottle of this soon.

Will you share a snort with me 56? I rarely imbibe the harder stuff. A beer now and then is my usual adult beverage. I do like to try new tastes.

If you don't know you're welcome, well... I haven't been much on the hard stuff lately myself, enjoying some PBR. I'll have to find a bottle of this, though. Come on by. We might get fussed at if I brought it to the shop. :)

I found a bottle of this (142.6 proof) and I must say, It is a experience! I always stick my nose in the top of the bottle to get a good whiff, the flavors are intense. I tried it straight first. At first it sits and the tastes start to come out, but after a nano second, the very intense alcohol fumes overwhelms your mouth as well as your front sinus cavities. It's a wow factor! And it burns all the way down.

Mixed with a splash of water, much easier to drink and enjoy. Seems the water dissipates the very intense alcohol fumes to a more manageable as well as enjoyable level. Still not sure how I fell about this one. Need to try it some more.

I went to Frugal MacDougals in Nashville late Saturday night and found a bottle of George T. Stagg (143 Proof) and a bottle of William Larue Weller (134 Proof), both part of the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection. Always pays to ask, they had a few bottles in the safe upstairs.

Bonus - one of the customers was dressed as Wonder Woman... :D

You can find it in Gallatin at Plantation Liquor store across from Gap Gallatin Campus (in the row of shops next to the car wash). Picked a bottle up this afternoon. Will be sampling it shortly.
