Rebate Checks

How to use the rebate:

As you may have heard the Bush Administration said each and every one

of us would now get a nice rebate. If we spend that money at

Wal-Mart, all the money will go to China. If we spend it on gasoline

it will all go to the Arabs, if we purchase a computer it will all go

to India, if we purchase fruit and vegetables it will all go to

Mexico, Honduras, and Guatamala, if we purchase a good car it will

all go to Japan, if we purchase useless crap it will all go to Taiwan

and none of it will help the American economy.

We need to keep that money here in America, so the only way to keep

that money here at home is to buy prostitutes and beer, since those

are the only businesses still in the US.

Most people will get $600.00 Couples filing jointly will get $1200.00. Some also get an extra $300.00/kid. People with AGI over a certain amount (I want to say its in the upper 70's) get reduced amounts or zip. You have to file a 2007 return to qualify.

I got my letter yesterday saying I would be getting a notice later about how much I get. So, the govt. passes this STUPID feel-good stimulus bill (that does nothing), then spends MILLIONS mailing letters to everyone saying they will be getting a letter with the amount on it. Then, the govt spends MILLIONS more to send the notices with the amounts on it, then spends MILLIONS more actually issuing the checks and making the deposits. (Direct deposit is not free, its just much cheaper than mailing a check.)

Am I missing something, or is this just astoundingly stupid?

PS. I'm spending mine on gun stuff. Probably a box or two of ammo the way prices are going...

Ammo ammo ammo- I'll buy $600 worth of ammo (or that shot gun I have been thinking about). Ammo keeps going up, and it goes up at a rate higher than any investments I might have, so ammo is a great investment, imho.

Jeeeez I wish....actually I had a really good year at work until November. I received a quarterly bonus based on how well the company did (consulting for health care clients, i.e. hospitals, physician groups, etc) We had signed on some good clients and all was working well, I got 2 bonuses that were very nice. Long story short, I got pretty sick last September and was in the hospital for 2 weeks, then had to rehab / physical therapy for 6 weeks. My first day back at work they decide to tell me that there has been a shift in the business philosophy and that they decided my job was no longer necessary. Nice huh? I guess that was the real answer or the almost $100K in hospital, and therapy bills their insurance had to pay out. They pretty much had to give me a fat severance deal and between that and the good bonuses I make too much. Whattya gonna do? (not get a tax rebate is what :D)

I am one that is married and has 4 kids...I will be paying toward bills, my goal for the year end is to be debt free, minimum of bills, house and car note, it things go well this year, get rid of that car note, getting close to having to replace my Jeep, so another car note is in the future. Even though my goal is by year end, I am hoping that I will have the equity line paid off by the end of summer, then start paying on the car.
