Does anyone know if TN allows FFLs to accept firearms shipments from non-FFL individuals? I searched and couldn't find this info. Thanks.

It's not the State's decision, it is a Federal matter. And yes, a TN FFL may receive a firearm shipped from an individual.

There is no restriction from them doing so, but they may not actually do it. It's best to ask the specific FFL if they will accept from non-FFLs. Some will and some won't.

I see; so it is up to the discretion of the local FFL. Thanks for clarifying.

What they charge for a transfer is up to their discretion too!

Mann's guns in Old Hickory wont do any transfers. He got burned real bad and lots of red tape from the BATF. Talked with him at the gun show a while back about doing a transfer from a person.

Call and ask to be safe as amsting said.

Talk with the guy here, he can tell you everything you need. He is great to work with and only charges $20 for the transfer.

Ditto on Phil at Bellshire. Good people. If buying new, call him up. He may be able to get you a good price...and no transfer.

Any interstate sale requires that by federal law, it's not like they have a choice, ya know.

Another thing to consider on firearms transfers such as lower receivers is that many gun shops already order and stock lower receiver’s themselves. Since most of them purchase these receiver’s in bulk shipment’s they often offer them within dollars of what an online dealer does. By the time you’ve paid shipping and transfer fee’s you generally haven’t saved any money. I prefer to spend my money with the local dealer in order to better support that business and help them continue to stay open. The few transfer’s I’ve done have been for older non C&R gun’s the dealer would only have in stock because someone traded them for another gun.

Buds has a list of FFL’s that already have their paperwork on file with them. You simply order, pick your dealer and it ships. Then you call your dealer and let them know its coming. Same thing with CDNN, only they do it over the phone. They tell you the dealers they are already cleared to ship to in your area.

The only legal way you aren’t going to go through an FFL transfer is a private party purchase from another Tennessee resident.

My buying tip on a lower would be PM the forum vendors in your area, put what you want in the “Want to Buy†section here and watch GOC for a local private seller or dealer that has what you want.

Not most, all. The lower is the only part of that gun that is considered the firearm. Everything else can be shipped direct to you, but the lower must go through an FFL since it is considered a firearm.

My FFL allows me to purchase multiple guns at the same time and pay one transfer fee. I purchased a 1911 recently, and picked up a lower at the same time. Didn't need the lower right now, but couldn't justify paying $30-40 in transfer fees on a stripped piece of metal.

If I wasn't planning on purchasing another firearm soon and needed a lower, I would have to shop locally. Sales tax and inflated prices would still make a local purchase better.
