Anyone done the Bourbon Trail?

Last week on the way up to the Knob Creek machine gun shoot my Dad, one of my good friends, and I decided to start the bourbon trail. We went to Heaven Hill, Barton Distillery, and Jim Beam since they were on the way. We had been to Makers Mark before so we decided to skip it. We plan on doing the eastern distilleries sometime soon. Just wondering if anyone else has made the Bourbon Trail or has any plans to do it?

Out of the KY distilleries I've been to here is how I would rank them.

1.Makers Mark- because they let you see the whole process. From mash to still you see it all.

2.Barton-They actually distill here on the property, and they show you the stills.

3.Jim Beam- They don't show you any of the process really. They just have models they take you around and tell you about the process and they take you through a barrel house.

4.Heaven Hill- Just take you through a barrel house and let you watch a movie. They don't distill on the property, that is done at a plant in Louisville.

I hear that Woodford Reserve is the best out of all the KY distilleries, but I havent made it up there yet. I hope to soon though.

I haven't officially done the trail, but have been to most of the distilleries. Buffalo Trace and Woodford were the best, IMHO.

It's been many years, but I've toured the Jack Daniels Distillery. At the time, I recall being shown the entire process from mash to barrel.

I've done a bunch of them. Maker's Mark was pretty awesome. Did they let you try their moonshine?

Four Roses was my favorite. Apparently, every summer, they shut down for 4-5 months which is awesome. Apparently they make all the bourbon they need for the year within the time frame that they are operational. I absolutely loved their Four Roses Small Batch bottle over everything else.

Woodford is great.

Jim Bean was so so.

Wild Turkey was okay as well. In fact, I think we learned more about Wild Turkey at Four Roses than we did at Wild Turkey. Also, apparently most of the distilleries give away their mash byproduct to the farmers (give or sell) in their area which I thought was cool as well.

There's only 6 so make sure you get your passport and get it stamped at the locations and then you can get yourself a free T-Shirt.
