Son and Daughter Range report

With my new Ruger Mark III and 10/22 in tow, along with the Beretta Neos .22, my son, daughter and I headed out to ASP range to A: Teach my daughter to shoot, B: Try out the new guns, and C: Empty the .22 ammo stock from my gun cabinet.

My son is an old pro at this now at the age of 12, but my daughter (16) has never shot anything until today. Not even a pellet rifle! My son had his own lane and my daughter and I shared a lane. We began with the basics of how to get the sight picture, how to handle the gun safely, and how to load and unload. After those lessons, she fired her first shot with the Ruger. It was right on target, but we were only out to the 3 yard mark.

When she was confident with shooting at that distance, I moved the target out to the 7 yard mark and left it there. She was consistantly hitting the target from there and even began to out-shoot her brother!

As far as the Ruger, we put over 500 rounds through it today and only had one failure to fire, which was clearly the ammos fault as it was hit correctly and had the markls to prove it, and only had one stove pipe. Not sure where to place that blame. The 10/22 was failure free! Both of the Rugers did amazing!

The Beretta Neos, with over 500 rounds through it today had 0 issues! No feeding, ejecting, or firing problems at all!

I'm proud of my kids and glad that they had fun... I have a feeling that my daughter will want to go along next time too.

sounds like you had a great time. .22's are so much fun to shoot.

Had my grandson with us at the range today he shot .22's and 9 mm and even some .38 specials. He had a big time thanks to Dolomite and his wife who let Cameron shoot his .22 AR and he was digging shooting the rifles with the suppressor on it. He was ringing steel with everything out to 120 odd yards. but his favorite is doing mag dumps with the 22-45. It was great.

I can't wait to take my kids to the range when they're older...guess I need to have some first though...:-\

and...probably should consider marriage before that too.
