wanted to buy his first handgun. I talked him into going for a 1911, so he went big. Springfield 1911 V-16 Longslide in .45 Super. Bought it last week, loves it so much he's buying another this week, Springfield 1911 Loaded Stainless.

That is a nice one. 45 Super is an awesome round. I have never seen a 45 Super. I had to look it up on Midway. 600+ Ft/Lbs of muzzle energy ain't bad. The only manufacturer I saw on Midway was Buffalo Bore and they run about $1 per shot. That's out of my price range. I guess it would pay to reload 45 Super.

Yep, a buck a shot and only one manufacturer who's in Texas makes brass for the 45 super. From what I understand its a cut down .451 Detonics. Fortunatly, the only difference between shooting Super and ACP is the Spring, so he will be mostly shooting ACP out of it. I wouldnt mind owning one, has about everything I want in a 1911. I especially like the porting, the V-16 stands for the 8 ports on each side.
