After see a post with someone elses retro AR build it motivated me to finish up the one I've been sitting on for a while. I was curious to see how many enthusiast of older model ARs are out there and what you have.

The inspiration for this build came after a buddy of mine gave me an old stripped A1 upper he didn't want. At the time I was going to get rid of an Olympic Arms I'd had for a while after building a RRA M4. With an A1 upper in hand, I decided to do something fun with it. I was modeling this rifle after an XM177/Model 610; obviously some things aren't correct on it such as the flash suppressor (for legality) and the bayonet lug, but here's what I got into it:

11.5 in barrel

5.5 in "commando" flash suppressor/moderator

Single heat shield handguards (6 hole)

A1 pistol grip

A1 upper (no forward assist)

Aluminum stock

Let's see what some of you got.

Mine is not so much Retro. It does not meet any military designation even without the Magpul gear. I like the simplicity.

Is that a YHM flash suppressor set up for a sound suppressor? I'm thinking about going the same route for my M4.

i have a set of triangle hg and a1 grip in the parts for sale. extra set from when i built mine,

Sometimes I wish I would have built a full size A1 instead of a XM177, but I already had a carbine stock so that's the route I took. Recently a buddy of mine offered to sell me a Colt SP1 (original owner was his father; left to him in the will) for only $1100. I'm still kicking myself, but I couldn't come up with the cash without selling one of my current babies.
