Ruger Mark II Sight Question

Recommended Posts

Posted

My eyes are getting old and don't work as good as they used to. I have a Ruger Mark II with the short tapered barrel and fixed sights. Does anyone know if there is a manufacturer who makes a hi-vis replacement sight? Doesn't have to be adjustable, just something easier to see than the standard. I can only find references to the bull barrel model.

I replaced the sights on my Single-Six with Williams Fire Sights and love it, but cannot find one for the Mark II.

Thanks, I considered that, but the front sight blade is undercut and I just wondered if it will be effective. May give that a try, it's probably worth a shot if I cannot find a replacement.

I put a Hiviz brand fiber optic front sight on my Mark II slabside. It was easy to install and works great.

Dunno if they make one the proper height for your barrel. When shopping I think I recall HiViz had more than one model for the Ruger Mark II/III of different heights, but could be mistaken.

I don't think that anyone makes one for the short barrels anymore. There were some aftermarket ones for the MK in the 80's but after they started tapping the recieivers in the mid 90's I haven't seen one.

The front sight is pinned and it has to be really tall for it to work in your gun. The ones for the 6 7/8" barrel may fit, but they will be too short to hit poa.

That's what I'm seeing on my search. Guess I will have to give the bright paint a go.

That dovetail scope mount is sheer genius. Of course it kinda makes iron sights not an option if you wanted to easily switch at the range. But it beats the only other thing I've seen which is a big clamp-on deal....http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/ruger-mk-i-ii-no-drill-scope-mount.aspx?a=862813...but I have concerns it might scratch the gun up.
