This seems like it couldn't be more perfect for the anti-gun crowd than if it was set up this way.

I'm not saying that it was a setup, I'd reserve that for the hard-ball National-level politicians and their operatives.

Gad, at least he didn't have the pistol in a holster on his belt. Sounds like he had forgotten, picture looks like he was intoxicated enough to have forgotten, he had left the .38 in the car. Stupid. If not for his own sake, for the sake of others, he could have thought ahead and put it in the trunk and taken a taxi home.

I wonder who he was out drinking with? Surely not with his wife, she'd have driven him home, or a staffer, who would have driven him home. So, he's with a crowd that lets him make a fool of himself like this? So, he's stupid enough to drink with a crowd that won't back him up? Double stupid on his part.

Not only does he bear personal responsibility for something this stupid, he has the added responsibility of being an elected representative, and an elected representative doing something stupid regarding an issue that he's worked on. A lot of people count on their elected representatives. He's damaged others as much or more than he's damaged himself.

If this situation is as it's been reported -- than he needs to resign in the next 24-48 hours and apologized publicly to the people of Tennessee. If he doesn't do it willingly, he needs to be prodded and embarrassed by his party into resigning.
