Not good. Ironic, in this instance where guns and alcohol alledgedly mix...the most dangerous thing in

The mix is the car...

I emailed him asking for his resignation.

For all the good he's done, he undid all of it and more with this act of sheer stupidity.

I am willing to bet he is never convicted of DUI, and at that point having a gun is moot.

Either way he is a dumb ass.

With very few exceptions, Politician = Dumbass

NASHVILLE, TN - (AP) - A Tennessee state lawmaker who was the lead sponsor of a law allowing handgun concealed carry permit holders to bring their guns into bars has been arrested on charges of drunken driving and possession of a gun while under the influence.

Rep. Curry Todd, a Collierville Republican, was pulled over in Nashville late Tuesday, police say in court documents. He allegedly failed a roadside sobriety test and refused to take a Breathalyzer test. A loaded .38-caliber gun was found in a holster stuffed between the driver seat and the center console.

A police affidavit said Todd was unsteady on his feet, "almost falling down at times." It concluded that Todd was "obviously very impaired and not in any condition to be carrying a loaded handgun."

The name of a lawyer for Todd, who is a former Memphis police officer, could not immediately be located. A spokesman for the House Republican Caucus had no immediate comment on the arrest.

Todd's arrest was first reported by WSMV-TV.

Todd sponsored a 2009 bill to allow people with handgun carry permits to bring their weapons into bars and restaurants that serve alcohol, provided they don't drink. The law passed despite opposition from law enforcement and district attorney groups, and easily survived a veto from former Democratic Gov. Phil Bredesen.

A judge later declared the law unconstitutionally vague. The Legislature passed a new version last year.

Todd, the chairman of the House State and Local Government Committee, is known for flashes of a quick temper. After Bredesen vetoed the original version of the guns in bars bill, Todd said: "I want to tell you what the governor can do with that piece of paper he just sent."

Todd also drew national attention last year for saying in a committee hearing that illegal immigrants can "go out there like rats and multiply" after hearing that federal law requires the state to extend prenatal care to women regardless of their citizenship status because all children born in the U.S. are citizens.

Todd initially acknowledged that he used the wrong words and that he meant to say "anchor babies" - itself a term many consider offensive - but refused to apologize for the original remark.

Todd later changed course and said he would "apologize if the comment offended anyone."

He sure looks hammered. I'm betting it all sticks.

Yah, man, eyes closed like that. Drilled.

How can someone be THIS stupid?

Stupid is pretty plentiful. When they tally it up at the end of the month, he probably won't even win MOST stupid. Lots of competition.

With the political persuasion of Davidson County judges, I would say that is a pretty safe bet. Considering he and Mike Turner's relationship, I doubt he stands a chance.

If he is guilty, and it would appear that he is by all accounts, then the punishment should be swift and severe ... just as it should be for any of the rest of us were we to be dumb enough to put ourselves in this situation.

You know after this and the whole "drug test welfare recipient movement..." I truly believe we should start drug screening politicians, because they are really just upscale high class welfare cases. Living off our tax dollars and not producing. Its the same theme different ghetto.

And this is the "good" we should try to take away from this. To all the people who are against any pro-gun legistlation: alcohol + gun possession = severe legal consequences. Just like DUI. Even for the guy who helped push the legislation. No exceptions. No mercy.

If he gets off, then we'll all pay for that.

The typical sentence/ plea deal for anybody with this charge in Davidson County is DUI 1st reduced to reckless driving dismiss the other charges and forfeit handgun. So I wouldn't be surprised if this at most what he gets. If he is a hardcore republican the Nashville Libtards might want to make an example out of him.

That is a very good point. So what that he made the rules, he broke them, and he paid the ultimate price for them, no exceptions.

He did not take the breath test. When you deny it, isn't that an automatic admission?

Remember: This is the police dept that had several Titans players "dead to rights" on DUI, and nothing held up in court, due to not following procedure. Wonder if a "lack of procedure" will up end this, too...

If you don't take the test, you are charged with Implied Consent, and automatically lose your license. Just means he plans to fight the DUI conviction in court. I would too if I was in his shoes. Sometimes, there are worse things than losing your license.

EDIT: I should say, that's how it was explained to me by a criminal lawyer that does a lot of DUI work. There are sets of circumstances when you shouldn't blow. This was a few years ago, so the picture may have changed.

Thanks for the clarification.

Yeah, like I stated, it seems a lot of DWI/DUI cases fall apart here in Nashville...

I gotta believe that money (for lawyers) and clout still help.

Circumstance #1: you're drunk
