First, the story:

US ties Iran to plot to assassinate Saudi diplomat

Next, Texas Fred's take:

Does anyone feel just a little bit skeptical, a tiny bit suspicious that as Eric Holder is about to be subpoenaed in the Fast and Furious debacle, as Obama and his *house of cards* is so close to falling, that all of a sudden there’s an evil plot to assassinate the Saudi ambassador brought up and SPLATTERED all over the news?
OK, so, how about this? Manssor Arbabsiar was arrested Sept. 29 and has been in custody since then. That’s 2 weeks that Obama and Holder have had this guy *on ice*, and all of a sudden, TODAY, it’s a BIG story?

Go read it all at Fred's

Yeah, my first thought was just how convenient the timing was, to divert some heat from Holder. It was interesting that during the press dog and pony show today he still had to field a question about Fast 'n Furious.

I still think there might be a big "crisis" around election time too, maybe not big enough to postpone the election (but anything is possible with this guy), but at least make what he'll consider a case for "not changing horses in the middle of the stream".

War with Iran or Syria perhaps?

Perhaps just martial law, you know, general domestic terrorism and all, since the back door gun ban things haven't worked out so well so far.

I recall when the folks said the same thing about Bush. Didn't happen then. I also sincerely doubt it is to protect Holder. But, were I a conspiracy minded person, (I'm not Oswald did it, that crafty octopus) I would guess that someone needs an excuse to bomb Iran's nuclear sites.

The most likely thing is that there was some crackpot scheme by Iran that, finally, didn't involve photoshop and nothing will happen. But if the bombs start flying, well, I'll be more skeptical or the veracity of the investigation.

The big problems with these conspiracy theories, whether they are about Bush's emails, weapons of mass destruction or the gun walker thing, is that everyone assumes they leader they loathe is both a complete and utter fool while also being an evil genius capable of thinking eight moves ahead. This isn't a movie where the Joker's elaborate plans are pulled off without a hitch while Batman is constantly flummoxed by traffic and such, this is real life where getting people to do the stuff you want is a bitch.

Israel will probably have to deal with Iran. I doubt we will be starting that conspiracy.

Convenient for Eric Holder? Of course. I wouldn't put anything past this administration,

but I think you knew that. Holder announced this assassination plot(?) and left. No time

for the questions. It may even be completely trumped up, for all I know. It won't save his job.

The Iranian plot dog and pony show was clearly timed to overshadow the Fast'n'Furious subpoenas.

When you set up a puppet show, you're supposed to hide the strings.

This thing reads like a "B" rated movie.

That said, the Mexican government seems to have confirmed the story. Hmm.

Yes, I think Holder is toast, and should be. Yes, there does seem to be a "timing" to the announcement. I just hope the side benefit to the FnF is to draw back the BATFE. But, I am not holding my breath.

You give it too high a rating.

So far, I have serious doubts the Iranian gummit had anything to do with this ... it seems much too rinky dink, slipshod, and daft even for a loon like Ahmadinejad, or the Supreme Leader and his council.

It actually benefits the Saudis more than anyone, PR wise, and certainly I don't trust them not to be holding some cards in the affair. It's not always true that the enemy of your enemy is your friend, and Saudi Arabia is a damn good example.

Even if Iran was up to it, why did it get reported so late? I'm just sure it was a "National

Security" issue. Nah, just Obama trying to hold on to Holder. Also, I wonder why the Bush

and Stennis are off the coast of Iran. Are the Dems trying to repeat WW1 or something?

He'll throw him under the bus.
