Let's see if I understand this correctly...

Commiefornia allows unloaded weapons to be displayed openly. People do exactly that by open carrying. Police hassle people obeying the law and carrying unloaded weapons openly. Police decide they are a menace to the public because they are "scaring" people. So Commiefornia punishes law-abiding citizens who legally open carry their unloaded weapons by banning open carry.

Did I get that right?

The real kicker is that the new law is targeted directly at Open Carry activists, seen as protestors by many. That's right, CA is going after the 1st amendment in addition to the 2nd.

As I've said many times before, the people of California have the government they deserve.

Exactly. The problem is them trying to project their ideals on other states. California needs to start their own country and take all their debt with them.

Even Barney Fife could carry a bullet in his pocket. "The right to keep and bare arms shall not be infringed." Citizen's arrest! Citizen's arrest! To quote Josey Wales; "To heck with them fellows. Buzzards gotta eat, same as worms."

Daddyo nailed it.

beyond that I am not sure where to start

another useless law, no one was ever shot by an unload gun.

They don't want anyone questioning or having the ability to question.

Much like New York City. Stop worrying about everyone else.

All it's going to due is cause a lawsuit that's probably going to force CA loosen it's unconstitutional carry laws. So right now it looks like a loss, but there's a national slide downward on gun control.

Hopefully you are right.

The left coast, California in particular, is a whole other world. They deserve what they get, but that is another thread.

As I've said before, there is a place for OC and it's NOT downtown or in an urban setting. The old wild west even had rules/laws against it in many of their towns. Now, you can keep forcing the issue, but laws like California's is what you're going to get. They went to extremes, however. A total state-wide ban is absolutely against all imagination and needs to be challenged.

I'm OK with open carry (having experience myself), but it's not appropriate everywhere.

You realized that you can open carry "downtown" and "in an urban setting" in something like 40 of the 50 states, right? And that before this ban, Californians could only open carry an UNLOADED gun, right?

It's quite obvious that CA is a case apart from most of the rest of the US open carry issue. Forcing the issue" has expanded the right to open carry overall in the US.

Yes I realize that there are many places, but downtown Nashville or Knoxville or Memphis or Seattle or LA or Austin or Dallas or St. Louis (and it may be illegal to OC in some these cities already) are NOT the places to be carrying open.

And I doubt forcing the issue expanded the OC legality in the states. It may have forced the law to recognize the fact that it was already legal. But, pushing the issue to OC in downtown will not help the OC cause - and if laws regarding OC become restrictive, don't count on the Supreme Court to come down against municipalities that pass the restrictions.

So it should be illegal to OC in populated areas?

Tennessee has a different name for it. It's a Handgun Carry Permit. Open, concealed, and Mexican style are equally acceptable.

Can you carry concealed without it?

In Madison Co., AL, it's called a pistol permit. It allows you to carry a handgun concealed and so does a HCP. So by whatever name, it's generically a concealed carry permit.

In what category would you place Mexican style carry?

Tennessee is just a carry permit. Yes, you need it to carry concealed, because you need it to carry at all. Unlike some states, TN doesn't require you to conceal your weapon. Mexican carry is pretty much concealed until it falls thru your pants leg. Then, it ain't. :D

Again, if you want to carry a handgun within the city limits, get a permit (generically speaking now) that allows you to carry it concealed and do so - don't carry it openly. Don't scare the little children.
