Perhaps this thread should be moved over to the Zombie section since it will not die.

Between this thread and the fire fighters let the man's house burn down thread, it has been very informative as to the character (or the lack thereof) of many on this forum. It's really quite sad.

Not doubting you necessarly...but do you know what code that is.

I do know that if a vehicle (assuming it means bicycles too) is going 10 or more MPH below the posted speed limit and has 5 or more vehicles behind them, they are supposed to pull over at the next safest place and allow the vehicles to pass. 55-8-123(4)(A)

I don't as I'm refrencing drivers ed from 18+ years ago! haha. I do know most of that (at least fomr my Arkansas experience ) has to do with agriculture machinery etc.

Thing about this stuff is that some folks are in such a hurry to get to the next stop sign/light just to wait. :D

LOL...ok it's just that I don't know of anything that lets you legally cross a double yellow line (at least in TN) to go around someone on a bicycle or other equipment.

That being said, as long as you did it safely, I wouldn't think most LEOs would have a problem with you barely going over to get around a cyclist....

Ok I have read this entire post and bear with me as I try to explain how I see it.

First as with all RIGHTS/ privileges, rights come with a price. Be it the right to vote ( set by each state) or our "Rights" given to us by the constitution. Some one at some time paid a price for others to have those rights. Even with the ability and RIGHT to carry a gun.

We must Take a class PAY a price in cash and wait a certain time to do so. So in one way or another rights have a price.

Now I would be 100% behind bikes to share the same roads as automobiles IF:

They had to be licensed. To insure they know and use the same laws of the road others use.

They had to be registered. To gain the income generated to help pay for the roadways as others do.

They had to be insured. To protect the rider and others just as others do.

They had to pay Wheel Tax (as we do in our county)

If Bikes also received the same penalties as others do when caught.

No I dont like bikes on the roadways but I will share the road with respect until there is a better way.

Where you see the word Rights add and or replace the word Privileges

As has been stated many times, there are NO driving/road rights - Only privileges.

I just can't understand why people feel cyclists should pay a road tax. They don't cause damage to the road. You could ride bikes for a hundred years and never have to repair a paved road.

Agreed.

I'd also wager that the vast majority of cyclists own at least one car, many probably have more than that. They pay their wheel taxes, just not on their bicycles. Should pedestrians be forced to get walking permits and pay a "shoe tax" before they are allowed to walk down city streets?
