Maybe I misunderstood what you're defining as the middle, but I took it as saying someone must absolutely believe in either the "left" or the "right" in order to be decisive. I recognize that moving our polarized politics to a middle ground is impossible because no one is willing to budge. What we have is a game of tug a war between the two sides and change only happens when somebody pulls harder, not through compromise. It's a shame. I wish we could abolish our two party system and give Americans the opportunity to choose the most qualified candidate instead of deciding between bad and worse. I acknowledge that this is nothing more than a fantasy, but was once the intentions of our founding fathers. I still don't think that I need to identify with a particular side to be decisive though.

Hmm. Define the middle as those who decide the elections. Win their vote, you win the seat. Lose their vote, and the other candidate wins.

This is why there are many RINOs and Blue Dog Democrats.

The two parties are ignoring the "middle" and it smacks of needing its own party. But then, try to create a successful 3rd party. Just try. Your actions would be mocked, then ridiculed, then labeled fool hardy, then attacked if you got anywhere close to making a 3rd party.

Washington was right about political parties, and should have been listened to.
