I picked one up recently with a box of 460"s but would like to start with something lighter. I am thinking at one time I heard 45 long colts, 454 casult and 460 mags can all be legitimately fired in a S&W 460 mag pistol. Anyone know with 100% certaintly is this is correct or if not where I err? Thanks

That is true, but you will want to thoroughly scrub chambers before shooting the longer cases again. Crud build up could interfere with chambering/extraction or even cause higher pressures depending on the tolerances of your gun. Owners manal may address the issue.

Yes that is precisely why Im always on the lookout for one. 45lc, 454casul, or 460 can be shot through them....sweet gun...also heed what dave shooter said....definitely don't want higher pressure when you go to shoot the big nasty 460....also be very careful about thumb placement...dont wanna slice it off with excess gas (just go google it...bad juju)

Thanks for replies. I had not thought about shooting shorter ammo then going back to 460 as cleaning would be very important.

That 50AE eagle was a bad boy and I fear similiarities with the 460. I was expecting muzzle lift but that thing came right back at me. WOW
