Better Caught Than Taught

Sunday I was getting ready for Church when my 6 year old daughter came in and said "Dad. I'm ready for Church." She had a huge smile on her face. I looked at her and she was wearing a long skirt a long-sleeved shirt. Nothing except for the mischevious smile seemed out of the ordinary. Then she said, "I'm going like Mrs. ______ today" as she lifted her shirt tail and revealed a rather large (for her frame), orange cap gun revolver riding IWB at 2 o'clock. Printing was so minimal I would have never noticed. One of the ladies at church regularly carries and it seems she has made quite an impression on my sweet daughter.

I noticed when she bought the gun that she passed on the similar gun that came with a big western holster. It did not occur to me that she passed on the large western holster because she was more interested in carrying concealed like Dad and the other grown ups that she respects. There are a couple of little boys that she is occasionally around that like to run around OC'ing their cap guns. Without starting up an OC debate, let me just say that I was proud of her choice. It almost made me want to buy her a belly band holster.

I had a similar experience with my 5 year old son a few weeks ago. I don't remember where we were going, but when I got to the back door he was there trying to get his Nerf gun to fit IWB.

My mother in law watched my 3-year-old one day last week. She really loves my son but she raised three girls and is sometimes a little shocked when he climbs on things and jumps around like a typical hyper little boy. She commented to my wife that everything he picks up, becomes a gun. My wife shrugged and said, "sometimes it's a sword."
