I doubt the ATF would go away. Re-branded maybe.

Disassembling the ATF isn't a bad idea but I wouldn't want to see it done by the current administration. Whatever bureaucratic frankenstein they created from it's parts would be worse.

I could picture them entrusting Joe Biden with finding the brain, much like Marty Feldman in Young Frankenstein. "His name was Abbey I think, Abbey something."

That's what I would call a budget cut. I'm not holding my breath but as someone else said. We can dream.

This was discussed somewhere else but my fear is that is the ATF was eliminated, then a new agency would patrol out firearms...could be better, but it could be worse...

I'd have to agree with JohnnyFox. Considering this administration, and the fact that historically, agencies disbanded and "rebuilt" by government tend to get things more complicated. I think it's better to have the enemy we know than an unknown quantity from Obama/Biden and friends.

The ATF really belongs in the IRS, since its core focus is taxes, licensing and some regulatory concerns.

Consolidate the "police" work it does at the FBI.
