Not that ya'll wouldn't, but I'll say it anyway. There's some friggin' whacko's out there,

The wife bought something from a guy. He swore there was paperwork and they could meet later and get it. She's tried for a month to get him to be good on that and we could go get the (basically meaningless) papers. Now he's cussing her and calling her phone every ten minutes calling her unimaginable things. Really disgusting...I mean make Richard Pryor sound like an alter boy. She's in town today so she had her number changed. Most of the problem solved.

Part of me sure would like to confront him for talking to my wife like that, but it's just words, right?

It gets me. Someone makes a promise, then when you ask them to honor their word, they wanna fight about it. Yeah, that makes sense:rolleyes: He's made some pretty serious threats, if you can put any stock into it. I don't. I'm kinda proud of myself keeping cool and all. It isn't the "Old Me" that would stay calm when a guy tells my wife on the phone he'll rape and kill her. If he actually knew anything more than a (now deactivated) phone number, I might be a little worried. Needless to say, I'm on heightened alert, but people talk a lot. If he makes contact again through email or something, I'm going to tell him to meet me in the parking lot here in town. I know several local cops who'd be glad to come hang out with me for a minute or two.

The world is full of crazies people. Check your chamber, check your rear. In GOD we trust, all others....not so much.

I imagine that all amounts to "communicating a threat" and "assault" but I'd call the local police and get a good read on it. Sounds like it's over the top. For all you know, your exerience isn't the only one, and the police may have other complaints on him.

Would you want someone else to get hurt because he wasn't reported?

"rape and kill her"

You're showing a lot more restraint than me. I would be having a talk with that boy.

I know, right? But...I don't wanna have to shoot nobody on a friday. It'll mess up the whole weekend:)

No seriously, we went to the guys house for the original transaction. We know where he lives. My wife actually knows where his parents live, his girlfriend lives, where he went to school, she might even have more personal info. It's amazing what that gal can get on this here interwebz. He doesn't know where we live. He only knows her first name. He's not very bright, BUT I know better than to underestimate stupid people...I mean look at this whole country.

We'll be filing a report with the police.

Oh, it's getting reported. I might not be beating the pictures off the wall mad right now, but I'm not letting it slide.

The dumb part is, he left a bunch of it on her voice mail. Like I'm not going to let the local PD in his area listen to it???? What a moron.

That's the deal. I wouldn't be that worried, if at all, but I would be real pissed.

My fiance loves getting a deal on craigslist, but one thing we always do. We meet at a central location or their house, never our own, and I am always there carrying. There are some cities where people will post a fake add for some fairly expensive item so that when you show up to buy it, they know you have at least X amount of cash on hand when they rob you. I try and keep it all strictly through email as well, because you can always repeatedly block their email addresses and I never register any real information when signing up for a gmail account. I hate giving my phone number to anyone....regardless of whether they can find me or not, but it is just damn annoying going through a number change.

Everyone we have met so far on craigslist has seemed like decent people, but all it takes is one bad apple.

An afterthought, that shoulda come first: He might be fencing stolen property. That'll make the police really interested. It'd be one reason why 'the paperwork' wasn't forthcoming. You'd think he'd be smart enough not to do the transaction at his residence, but it sounds like smarts and him don't get along.

My dad used to get regular telephone threats when he was a company doctor in a small mining town. He always told me that it wasn't the ones who threatened you that you had to worry about - it was the ones who didn't.

Right, Grandma always told me "Hon, them boys that run that mouth all the time, don't give them a second thought. Now, that fella that says nothin' when he's lookin right at you....ya might ought to pay him a little attention."

Grandma's got some damn good advice right there. I heard the same, but from my Grandpa.

Honestly, I don't know why people even bother going to Craigslist anymore. Stories like this are all I ever hear about it. It seems like it's just wacko central and everyone knows it but they keep going there anyway, and of course the wackos know it and keep doing the same.

Yeah, I avoid Craigslist like the plague.... and good call on reporting it.

You should get a Google voice account.

+1. I have a Google Voice account just for when I have to give my number to someone I don't know.

Haven’t heard of that; How’s it help? I’m always Leary of giving my phone number on gun ads until I'm sure its legit, because of the people mining phone numbers. Then you start getting all kinds of sales people calling.

If someone threatened to rape and kill my wife; they would be arrested.

Google Voice is a free phone number from Google, that you link to any of the phones you may regularly use, like your cell, work, that cabin you are going to for the weekend, etc. When someone dial the Google number all of the phones ring at the same time, whichever one you answer from gets the call routed to you. The best thing is the caller only knows your Google number. In the Google account you can specify which numbers calling you should ring your phones, go straight to voicemail or just be blocked alltogether. It's an awesome tool and everyone should have a Google Voice number.

There's lot of other cool features the account does too.
