You'd be rather exposed in a house boat although my first thought was it was a good idea. But your mobility would be good (with fuel) as long as you don't have to pass through one of the TVA locks that will not be functioning.

My concept is to hunker down where you know the terrain with supplies on hand for as long as you can. Sleeping in a real bed has it's benefits even if the electricity is off. My idea of a good time is not sleeping under a tarp shelter or in a tent for very long. But I keep most of that stuff on hand just in case. If the chaos got really bad, those that can should move to a defensible fortified position with their supplies.

I am new to the whole Zombie thing. I am however somewhat experienced in the primitive camping and survival thing. Back before the white man came into east Tn, the Cherokee had their biggest village on an Island. It was where the Hiawasee meets the Tn River. they could not be approached unknowingly or easily. That Island is still there. Canoes still don't need fuel and the river still has fish in it. The only problem would be the Nuke plant up river. Other than that it sounds like a place to go.

I am far enough away that we stay put initially. Multiple plans would be established for bug out or worst case scenarios. At least wait long enough for the worst to blow over. You know, the initial panic of the general populous. Food won't last forever and the local grocery won't be getting any deliveries anytime soon. So only options are what I can grow and hunt. Growing takes time in a set place.
