Don't go to California.

I never said there wasn't good people from California or New England I know some and i'm sure there's alot more. It's hard enough to tolerate the politics here much less in a more socialist state like California or Massachusetts. Since I wont fly anymore I don't want to be arrested on a firearms charge so I wont be traveling through states that don't honor my TN permit. I plan on driving to South Dakota to see the Badlands and Deadwood so I will avoid Illinoise for that reason.

I'm not going to push this point because you sound like you're set in your ways, but I don't notice any politics while I'm rock climbing in California, or walking the beach on Cape Cod. If you do, you're doing something wrong. I'm not a single issue person and if I got tied up with doing business with, talking to, or wearing things made by only the people who are 100% in line with my thinking, I'd be naked and lonely.

FWIW, I regularly travel through MA, NJ, IL, and NY with a firearm. It's not a big deal if you know FOPA. Just don't drive a pickup truck with "I don't care how you do it up North" and "I hate cops" bumperstickers, doing 80mph in a school zone.

Being in school to be a police officer,

Aren’t you the one that started the thread about losing your temper and throwing company property around at work? </SPAN>:D

Well i'm not a single issue person either but I value my 2nd Amendment rights as well as my 4th and 1st Amendment rights as well as the rest of the BOR's. There's many times and places where not having a handgun doesn't make me feel unsafe, it's a matter of principal like i've said before. I wouldn't want to visit a state where you would have to consent to a vehicle search before crossing the border, or be arrested if you critisized the state government. Mandatory vehicle searches and arrests for unlawfull speech are extreams that states don't have but they do have extream un-constitutional laws about firearms therefore I wont be visiting them.

Also, i'm against going 80mph in a school zone but I have heard that if you have a Tennessee or say an Alabama plate driving through Massachusetts chances of being pulled over by state or local police are alot better than having a local or neighboring state plate. The source I got that from is a former Boston cop. I don't care to be profiled either.

That's your choice and respectively, your loss.

I've repeatedly driven through all of the northeast states (MD, DC, NJ, NY, CT, RI, MA) with "southern" tags on my car, and a car load of FOPA compliant guns, including NFA, and never had a problem. If you drive like an idiot and act suspicious, sure you'll get stopped, but that goes for anywhere. The only place I've ever experienced being license plate profiled is in Virginia. I moved there with PA tags and got stopped 5 times in about 3 months. When they found out that I was "local" they let me go. There are good cops and bad cops everywhere and sometimes they have good reason to stop you.

Next to Tennessee and Arizona, California has some of the most beautiful places to see in America.

Just stay out in the country and don't go anywhere near LA. There are conservatives out there but they are few in number and they only have ten rounds in their pistols.

I'm with you. There's nothing I need or want in places like NJ, MA, NYC, Chitcago (or any of IL for that matter) that I would give up my 2nd rights much less my right to self-defense.

Who would want to go to New Jersey. The Garden State. Where hollow point bullets are illegal. They have tour busses in Newark that take you on a Gang tour so you can visit the different gangs that run the city.

I have an HCP, but I don’t have gun rights in this state, so I don’t make that a priority when I travel. I have traveled all over this country and continue to do so. I want to get back to D.C., just so much to see there and so little time.

Chicago has the best museums, restaurants and night life in the world. The Museum of Science and Industry and the Museum of Natural History is a must for your kids. Don’t make them miss it because you can’t carry a gun.

If I could only visit the places I could carry a gun; it would make for some pretty boring travel.

I do most of my long range shooting in Illinois have traveled extensively in California. I rode my Harley from Illinois to California; great trip. I legally took a gun with me and I didn’t have to stop at the CA border. :)

Northern California has some of the most beautiful land on earth. Great part of the country.

I'm going to be traveling to LA on business next week - not really looking forward to it, but there are worse places to visit...

New York?

New York State also has an abundance of truly beautiful areas.

CA and NY have some very nice areas, but I'll stay away from their large cities!
