This is posted in another section but we are not allowed to reply there so I am reposting it.

They are posted "no loaded firearms except LEO" so I sent them this

"While doing an internet search for local gun stores in east TN, I came across yours and also came across a site that tells me you do not allow legal handgun permit holders to carry in your store. While I dislike your policy, I will honor your wishes and not bother to shop in your business. I’ll also make sure all my HCP friends know we are not welcome in your business.

Should you reconsider your policy, please let me know, I’m always looking for a new gun store to prowl around and purchase another for the collection."

Great email. I just can't understand a GS posting against concealed carry. Of all people, they should know we're the most responsible group that'll enter their store. They should post a ''No firearms allowed if you're planning a robbery here".

Those were my thoughts, though I didn't express them when I went in there. I wish I had.

As far as WD on Alcoa Hwy, I wouldn't go there anyway. I went in there two or three times. Once, no one acknowledged my existence (there were no other customers in the store at the time), so I left. When I did browse, the prices seemed to be marked up by at least 100%. Ok, not everything, but some ammo like the brass cased 7.62x39 was priced at $500/thousand. This was when I could get it online for $250. I haven't been back there in a while.

Likewise, I doubt I'll stop at Stars and Stripes again unless I hear they've changed their policy.

At first I wondered if it is a poorly worded sign meaning not for repair etc... like many outdoors stores have. But the except for LEOs part doesn't seem to follow along with that.

My mom knows the owner of this store and she says he's a really nice guy. I'll have her ask him about the policy. I know that he's only been open for a few weeks though.

Same at Randy's on Broadway in Knoxville. I ask why, they said someone came in to purchase a holster, took out their loaded firearm, shot a hole in the floor and scared the chit out of everyone. So their no carry policy was primarily for the reckless.

pretty much this is their reson for the sign. They dont want idiots pullling out loaded weapons at the counter. I asked the owners about it when the wife and I walked in open carrying and loaded. He did not seem to mind a bit, but asked us to keep em holstered.

How did he break the law?

A "No loaded weapons" signs doesn't contain all the info required in 39-17-1359 to be a legal posting.

I fully understand your point, but I felt I had to challange their sign, and no matter what I can say here to back myself up in my actions, I just felt it was something I had to do. After all they are a gun shop. Same applies for WD on alcoa hwy. Im in there all time with loaded guns and a long time ago(before I owned a firearm) I asked about the sign and was given the same answer, "just keep it holstered".

Now with that said, would I even dare to try and challange any other location with such a posting, heck no.

Am I ballsy, not normally but sometimes when something just dont sit right with me I'll take what ever action I need to get the answers I need. Thats just me

Yes...maybe for trespassing, if he was asked to leave and didn't. Of course that could happen without the sign.

I really don't think most LEOs would have just hauled him off to jail if they saw him inside without any discussion.

There is a thread on another forum where someone OCed past a "No Concealed Weapons" sign...he was never asked to leave, but the law was called and after some discussion...there were no charges, because he didn't violate any law...just the policy of the location and LEOs are in the business of enforcing laws, not private property policies.....

But I agree that carring past the sign, to ask about it probably wasn't the best way to start the discussion.....

Got to go there the other day. The woman is a very nice lady, but the guy seemed more interested in playing with the guns. Plus there prices are more expensive than even Gunnys. I wont be going back after seeing those prices. They wanted $600 for glock and $375 for an LCP.

You get all kinds at gun stores, I'm surprised there are not more ND's there.

Here is a funny one, I was at a store in Nashville when one of the owners was showing an old lady a gun she wanted to buy. The old lady had never fired one but was interested for home protection. Naturally it was a revolver. So after standing around for about 5 minutes listening to the conversation, the old lady asked how heavy it was when it was loaded. Said owner pulls out 5 rounds, loads the chambers, hands the lady the gun (with the barrel pointing at said owner) and says "don't pull the trigger" but this is how heavy it is.

Needless to say, I about chit my pants, left the store immediately. Figured who am I to chastise an owner that is dangerous enough to have a loaded gun pointed at themselves by another person.

I guess if I owned a gun store I would put a sign that says keep all loaded firearms secured at all times.

Do not remove your gun to try holsters or show it to someone or you will be asked to leave immediately!

Got an email from them, they are rewriting the policy and we are now allowed to carry in their store.
