Does anyone outside of me find this tidbit in the news to be interesting:

Alexander Will Step Down as Chairman of U.S. Senate Republican Conference - Bloomberg

If so; why?

Maybe he's done all the damage he can do? Only took him 2 years to cripple UT.

Thanks for letting me know about the other thread. Interesting posts. I think Robert hit the nail square on the head here:

....Well; he is a very "Republican Republican"; he just isn't and never was and never will be a "conservative". ....

I figure that he is worried about his "sterling reputation" in the political arena and is afraid of being embarrased by the future influx of real conservatives that will most likely give the senate to the republicans in 2012. Lamar is, indeed, a republican polititian.

He is not a "conservative". Like others, i would love for him to retire.

Never loose sight of the fact that Alexander is the titular head of the Republican Party in Tennessee. Our current Governor and Speaker of the House are disciples of his "brand" of politics, both having been personally involved in HIS campaigns, and being recipients of his influence and backing for their ascension to the positions they currently enjoy.

Along with ex-Governor Winfield Dunn, Alexander wields more influence on State Republican politics than any other. There was a big push on their part to affect the selection of Harwell as Speaker of the House, arguably the most powerful position in State Government.

Now, having spoken to several individuals in Leadership of the Republican caucus recently, their main thrust and goal is to reach the magic number of 66 in the TN House. Appealing to "Moderates" and "Independents" will be their tact in upcoming elections, Conservatives will take a back seat in their pandering for votes, as it is their position that they have us firmly ensconced in their camp, so therefore we are unimportant.

I hadnt thought about this piece of the "Tennessee Republican" pie. It makes perfect sense.

Thanks for the wise observations.
