a patriotic moment

I thought I'd share this with you as It made me proud to be an American. I am in sales at Wolfchase Toyota in Memphis and as you know there is a massive flag out front. In order to repair the wind worn edges the flag must be sent in or replaced often. I was there to help and it was really cool to notice the respect we all shared for the flag as it was neatly packed into a container for shipping and repair and there was great concern for it not to touch the ground. As the new flag was raised I felt deeply moved by the sight and sound of this flag and the flapping of it through the wind on that sunny day. A sense of great pride filled my heart as we all paused to admire our accomplishment. "God bless America" I said as we all went back to our duties.

I hope this blesses you all

Rev out,

aka

That is nice to see.

People form other countries sometimes don't value their flag like we do as a symbol of our freedom. When I was stationed in Greenland (a colony of Denmark) many years ago, the "hosts" of the base were the Danish Navy. Of course they only had 3 sailors there, lol, including the commanding officer. There were periods of the year with all daylight or all nightime, but we still conducted reville and retreat ceremonies each day, raising and lowering the colors. We would have two USAF cops report to the Base HQ, and the Danes would send one sailor for their flag. We would observe the standard military custom and courtesy to our flag, making sure that it was not lowered faster than theirs, folding it into the traditional triangle shape. The Danes would just lower their flag, not caring if it touched the ground (it always did). They would just rapidly roll it up into a wad and toss it into the back of their truck. The odd thing is, they just didnt consider that disrespectful...

See if you can get them to donate it to a local Boy Scout troop. They can retire it in a proper fashion, and it's a good way for young boys to learn respect for the flag.

LOL! They'd have to retire that one at a big Jamboree event to build a fire big enough.

Oops, guess I missed the part about how big it was.

There is nothing more american than a huge american flag at a foreign car dealership.

Yep, like them Toyota engines made in Jackson, TN. Or the trucks built in Texas and Illinois? Or maybe it's Indiana.

Oh well. It's not like them 'foreign' cars employ people here to sell or service them, anyway...:koolaid:

After all, that would be as un-American as Ford, or Dodge, or Chevrolet using foreign made parts in their cars...surely they wouldn't do such a thing...

I need to take a flag to a Scout troop to be properly retired.

I hate to say it but I'm looking at a Honda Accord and a Ford Fusion. The Honda was built in Ohio and the Ford in Mexico.

Back the subject of the thread. I appreciate seeing a flag flown correctly whether it's at a business or residence. I installed an outside flood light on my house so mine would be lit at night.
