Jesse is apparently content in his ignorance. He does not want to go to the shooting range, learn anything about guns, or even sit down and have a reasonable conversation about gun ownership and crime. He said that his dad was mugged once, and he felt like his dad was safer by virtue of the fact that he was defenseless. It is obvious, after exchanging emails with Jesse, that he doesn't know anything about guns, hasn't taken the time to really read any of the responses to his article, and is willfully ignorant to his status as an unarmed sheep in a world full of wolves. Meanwhile, he will likely continue to preach against gun rights, despite his lack of knowledge. Sometimes I don't know why I bother.

Just wanted to follow up for anyone who doesn't read the hustler/insidevandy. This 4th or 5th page opinion piece was followed on Thursday by a front-page article titled "gun control shot down by activist."

That was a pretty bland and watered down article. I think the writer could have definitely elaborated on some of the points Lott made, by doing some research and backing those points up with stats. seems Vandy journalists aren't very good at writing objective, fact laced articles with good statistics to back it up, and elaborating on those statistics and comments.

Between both articles, I've seen students at the community college level that write better than this.

i've several friends and an uncle who are vandy alumni. my wife is workin on her masters there.

that being said, it still holds true... sometimes it's not what you learned but where that teaching occurred
