Sevenmile Island WMA

Has anyone hunted Sevenmile Island WMA outside of Florence Alabama? I'm reconsidering my options in light of the TWRA's position on hog hunting, and am considering heading down that way.

It looks like the only access is by boat. But, it also looks like they're a lot more welcoming to hog hunters down there.

Go to "Black Warrior" WMA at Decator. It's part of the Bankhead National Forrest. Look for the "blackwell swamp" area. It is loaded with trophy hog! Well worth the trip. That's where I'm heading here very soon! It's a rocks throw from Florence Ya'll!!!

Alabama welcomes us hog hunters, as they "TRULY WANT THE HOGS GONE"....unlike Tennessee.....Nuff' Said!

Thanks for the advice, Dave! I'm likely going to spend a couple of Friday's in the near future scouting that area. Something about Sevenmile appeals to me. Looking at the maps, it looks like a place that could yield some big hogs.

Let me know how it works out. They are about 20 miles apart If I remember right (my old stomping grounds). I may have you join me on a hunt, or visy versy!

I have been out to Sevenmile several times, but I wasn't hunting animals. My stepdad was working for the state and Auburn University on a Native American burial site. We would run across in a john boat and one morning I got to see a big buck swimming across to the island. We motored up pretty close to it and watched it swim. I didn't know there were hogs on the island. There may not have been way back then. That was close to 20 years ago.

Man, I'd love to do that sometime. I'm likely going to go scout Sevenmile, but it may be the first part of November before I can get away to do it.

Alabama's regs seem to be written to get rid of hogs. As I read them, the WMAs I've looked at are open for hogs during any other active season using weapons allowable by that season.

I'm looking to go myself. I'll check the regs again, but I believe they have some gun hunts when deer is closed also. Cost of non resident licenses is not all that bad either.
