NFL Enhanced Security

Pat downs at games! The football frisk!

Now, once again the perception of security is more important than actual security. Football is played in winter, when people wear heavier clothing in layers. Does anyone really think that a stun gun or other weapon can be detected by a person with minimal training searching thousands of people as they come inside?

I just saw this in the news and had to laugh.

Got patted down at the Titans vs. Bears pre-season game earlier this year. Could have easily taken a full sized firearm in no better than they searched me. It's a token gesture at best.

Obviously I was unarmed, following the letter of the law, but you get the point.

Exactly David. It is just silly. It also won't stop the beating like at the Giants game (?) awhile back.

It does not bother me as I will not go anyway, way to expensive and I would rather the lady make her game day food anyway, but it is just an example of the perception issues.

Even with the enhanced pat downs, a fan got a stun gun in to the Dallas game on Sunday and used it in a fight–which was subsequently captured on video and he was arrested on a weapons charge.

Would be one thing if it was really intended to enhance security. It will probably keep a few unauthorized beers and snacks out of the stadiums.

It's just another step in getting the sheep to submit to illegal public warrantless searches.

I have carried my handgun into concerts and athletic events. There seem to be just bags glanced at and that is it. It is not difficult to carry a handgun if you know how to hide it properly. I would keep carrying as long as I am legal, depending on the state. The worst that can happen is be asked to leave.

I had to walk through a scanner at the last Titans game I went to… A few weeks ago we went to Kings Island (theme park in Ohio). Had to walk through a scanner.

They're everywhere.

The NFL has increased pat downs because of the stun gun incident. Prior it was pat down from waste up, now it's full body.

I suspect it won't be TSA quality groping not with 80,000 people to get in before kickoff

These measures serve as a deterrent. For big events like this where so many people are packed into one place, drinking and fired up I can understand taking steps to mitigate risk of someone using a weapon to harm others around them. Besides, I'm not pulling my gun in a crowd of 60,000 people anyway.

I "randomly" got selected to go through one. Didn't bother me after I got my smart comment off.

Which was, "Yeah, I knew you'd want to see me naked". The stare I got from the TSA official was perfect. Was it right to do? Probably not.

it's private property (albeit in most cases funded by taxpayers dollars), and a privately owned business, therefore the Constitution does not apply in this case, and the Titans can set whatever policy they want.

They have high profile athletes and coaches, many of which have overzealous fans & haters, who might want to bring harm to someone, or hurt someone to give their idol an advantage. all types of whackos out there.

No way in Hell!

There's nothing I want to see bad enough to go through a pat down.

Well, depends on who is doing the patting... :P

(Yeah, yeah, with my luck they'd swap out the nice female security personnel with some unhandsome over reaching fellow, just as I get to the gate...)
