SBR process question

Recommended Posts

Morning all,

I'm in the process of doing a short barrel build and have filled out the application form. My question is, living here in Davidson county, can anyone direct me to who is supposed to fill out the "Law Enforcement" section of the application?

I called the Sheriff's office and they transferred me to the ATF, who sent me back to the Sheriff's office who doesn't know who to send me to (they actually gave me the number to the TWRA... :/ WTF?)

Anyway, anyone here in Davidson County been thru the process before? Who do I need to get to fill out the back portion of the app?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Teddy

You can put you NFA items on a revocable living trust. When you do this not only do you not have to do fingerprint cards, photo ID, and ask permission from you local CLEO. You can put more than one person on the trust. That means you , your wife brother friend or whoever else you want to be able to legally posses the item can do so. It can be amended at any time to add more items and more or less people.

What Mike said. A revocable living trust is your best bet. It's a little more expensive on the front end but is, IMO, the only way to fly.

If you don't go the trust route (which I also recommend), send your paperwork to the Chief of Police in Davidson County. Due to the way the metro government was setup, he is the CLEO in the county. This is different from most counties in TN - where you would send the paperwork to the sheriff.

Like bubbadavis said if you don't go the trust route drop your forms off at Metro PD off James Robinson Pkwy for the Chief of Police to sign. I have done that for years and never had a problem. I always include a letter with my contact info and a self addressed stamped manila envelope so they can mail them back. I usually get them back within a week.

Thanks guys, I've taken the day off on Friday to do a handful of other things and I'll make it a point to head over that way and drop my paper work off.

Don't think I can go the trust route, pretty sure my lower has already been engraved. Might try and call the shop that I dropped it off with this week and see where it's at.
