You know something else that has not been mentioned anywhere I've seen is, the law as it is now, allows owners of a bar or their designee to carry in a place that serves alcohol for onsite consumption. So I'm pretty sure there are already firearms in several bars out there.

I don't really like the mentioning of the 51% thing since the current proposed law in TN does not have that stipulation.

I don't know for sure but I would imagine the laws in those states are compromises stemmed from opposition like TN's proposed bill is getting.

What a coincidence... I don't trust Chief Serpas so I guess that makes us even?

It's funny that the current statutes technically do not allow police officers to go armed anywhere that alcohol is served for consumption on premises unless they are acting in an official capacity at that very moment. How many times have you seen cops eating lunch in a restaurant that serves beer? I know I have seen them do so plenty of times. Too bad for them that eating lunch isn't considered to be in execution of official duties.

Chief of Police Ronal Serpas is nothing more than a idiot in a blue uniform. We should send him and his a$$hole son back where they came from with our best wishes.

All you need to know about Serpas is that he was once the assistant superintendent and chief of operations of the New Orleans Police Department where he began his law enforcement career in 1980.

The most corrupt PD in the nation.......

Serpas is a joke pure and simple. The guy has gone from Washington State, to New Orleans (possibly one of the most corrupt departments in the country) to Nashville. Seems like every high profile position Nashville hires (Chief of Police, School Director, etc, etc) is either a second rate candidate from some other municipality or leaves here as fast as they can.

Don't worry though, Chief Jowls is doing a bang up job with crime here. He has almost singlehandedly erradicated speeders on our fair streets, has boosted the city coffers with much needed $$$ from his traffic enforcement, and has gotten tough on dangerous criminals like college kids out for a night on the town....ooops except for his own son of course, guess the first dui didn't teach junior a lesson. I generally have high respect for LEO's but this guy is a clown. He can spout whatever statistics he wants but numbers and other data can be manipulated. In the 15 years I have lived here (Antioch area) it has gone downhill. It used to be a halfway decent part of town, but now I don't go anywhere without one of my guns. If Serpas wasn't so busy running to every TV camera he sees he might start cracking down on serious crime. For him to suggest that HCP holders are going to turn Nashville into the OK corral (I know he didn't come right out and say that, but his comments imply that) speaks volumes about this guys attitude and ineptitude.

Chief of Police Ronal Serpas and others in law enforcement, have thrown down the gauntlet regarding SB 23 & HB 401.

Not this one.

The more "good guys" with guns = better.

When he was hired, I asked a friend of mine in Washington state about him. Back then, he said we were getting a traffic cop, he ain't worth a s--- at anything else.

Guess he knew...

funny thing is... his own officers dont trust him...

Wouldn't it be fun if a group of his officers would get together and release a statement supporting the new bills?

Sure, I can see that.

"Officer Friendly, would you mind signing on to this statement supporting guns in the hands of drunken rednecks in bars, which the chief has opposed. THis will put you in opposition to the official position of this dept and jeopardize your career but you'll be doing the right thing."

Yeah, thats a winner.

Hey, I didn't say it was likely, but it's still fun to think about.

Many people do not trust politicians' so called expert ideas such as this guy in Nashville. Trust is a two way street, if he does not trust us protecting ourselves, why should we trust his decision making ability?

Serpas doesn't even trust officers with guns, let alone any other citizen.

Officers can be in the performance of their duties and eating lunch. Metro police work 8.5 hours a day, which includes a paid breakfast/lunch/dinner. No different that when their're in court outside their regular shift.

Policy prevents officers acting as officers to be political in any manner. Political activism has to be on their own time. An officer who says "I officer --------- support or disagree with ---------, can and do face discipline.

Nobody likes Chief Serpas except those dumb enough to have his smoke blown up their ass.

The overwhelming majority of Nashville cops are very pro 2nd amendment.

It wouldn't be that different than when "F the Mayor" stickers started showing up on all the personally owned vehicles in Memphis Police Department parking lots.

That letter doesn't surprise me in the least. The official position of police chiefs seems to be that only police officers should carry firearms. Every time the "Brady bunch" in DC comes up with another of their ridiculous anti-gun proposals, it's always endorsed by the national association of police chiefs or some other similar organization.
